Palin Picking Winners
Human Events ^ | 6/19/10 | Doug Patton

Say what you will about her political choices, but Sarah Palin knows how to spot winners. (snip)

But probably her most dramatic political choices this year have been Sharron Angle to face Harry Reid in Nevada and for Nikki Haley to be the next governor of South Carolina.(snip)

But there is another reason Sarah Palin may yet emerge as the most likely candidate to win the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. The disastrous manner in which Obama and company are handling the Gulf oil spill, combined with the extremely unpopular environmental regulations they are trying to implement as a result, could very well open the door for a rival who knows a thing or two about energy policy.

The fact is that Barack Obama has never run so much as a cash register at a convenience store and he has surrounded himself with similarly ignorant eggheads, thus making him extremely vulnerable to a challenge from someone who has, in fact, not only run a large state but also has had vast experience negotiating tough deals with oil company executives. That someone is Sarah Palin. As one of the most knowledgeable public figures in the country on the issue of energy policy, Palin can take the conservative message right into the center of the storm.

Another thing I like about Sarah is she is a unifying figure on the issue of religion.

She's an Evangelical Christian, but not of the Fred Phelps loud minority variety which condemns everybody else to hell.

She was raised Roman Catholic, so has the respect of that group.

And she has roots in Mormon country, so has the respect of that group as well.

All three groups are importantant to any Republican elected president-- Evangelical Christians and Roman Catholics because there are so many of them; Mormons because although few in number, they are overwhelmingly conservative in their voting habits.

Sarah is CREATING winners- not just picking them.

These people might have lost without her support.

For the record as far as I know, Sarah Palin has never endorsed Sharron Angle.

This is a biased and misleading article!

The fact is that Barack Obama has never run so much as a cash register at a convenience store

Very misleading. There is excellent evidence that the man worked in a Baskin-Robbins, where he presumably ran the cash register. I maintain that a Baskin-Robbins is the functional equivalent of a convenience store. A cosmopolitan man like BHO probably has heard the term "shots" and "jimmies" as well as "sprinkles."

Unfortunately this represents the apex of The Usurper’s real world business experience. IMHO

At Baskin-Robbins he re-distributed the profits of his employer by giving his friends free ice cream.

Another factor in her favor is how her potential opponents have already lost. Romney is DOA because of Masscare, Gingrich is wounded because of those silly global warming commercials with Pelosi, and recently Mitch Daniels flamed out. Fred Thompson might not run because of his age.

Who's left that's viable? Thune seems to have the clearest path since he is running unopposed this year, has a war chest, will be campaigning for others and picking up favors, and doesn't annoy any particular branch of the right wing or independents.

Thoughts on other potential GOP POTUS candidates?

Maybe . . . but he more than made it up to his old employer. Besides regular photo ops with ice cream, he is going to use the full faith and credit clause ... uhhh Interstate Commerce Clause ... uhh ... War Powers authority ... uhhh ... due process clause ... yeah, Due Process clause to make sure that illegal immigrants on Arizona are not detained on their way to the ice cream parlour. That should protect a lot of B-R's business.

That is a weird post, and a dig at the 26% of Americans that are Evangelicals, Phelps has nothing to do with Evangelicals, he is a democrat lawyer that leads 87 people in a unique cult of his own creation.

Palin was not “raised Roman Catholic” her parents left that when she was still a baby.

Palin doesn’t have “roots in Mormon country”, she was born in Idaho and left as a baby, Idahoans would probably be surprised to learn that being born in Idaho would give them roots in “Mormon country”.

You also left out that while Evangelicals are the largest religious voting block, they are also “overwhelmingly conservative in their voting habits”.

Here’s a conservative business woman for Sarah to support.

Charlotte Bergmann http://www.bergmannforcongress.com/ US 9th District in TN.

No dig intended against Evangelicals, sorry you chose to see it that way. The only dig is at the vocal minority who condemn everyone else to hell. Most Evangelicals are embarrassed by them and know who I am talking about.

Did you read Palin's book? She attended catechism when she was a young girl. Doesn't that constitute being raised Roman Catholic?

Ditto for her roots. Read the book and you'd understand her grandparents were in Salt Lake City and southeast Idaho (Pocatello, I beleive), both areas with a fairly high Mormon population as, for that matter, is Alaska.

The point is that she can unite all three groups unlike RINOs like Huckabee and Romney.
