NEW YORK--Answering a question from a reader as to whether a teacher should post a cartoon on his door that disparages President Obama as a socialist, New York Times columnist Randy Cohen writes:
[W]hile this teacher does not transgress ethically, he does seem to fall short intellectually, offering not deft political analysis but slogans and clichés...
Incidentally...how does it defame a person to call him a socialist (outside of nutty far-right circles) a set of ideas many advanced Western democracies find congenial, what with the accessible health-care, affordable higher education and good public transportation?
Cohen, who writes the Times' "Ethicist" column, answers readers' questions on whether a particular conduct is moral. As far back as 1999, when the column debuted, he was criticized for using the column to advance government control of the economy. In 2004, he was discovered to be making donations to the left-wing political group MoveOn.org, in violation of the Times' ethics policy. He was allowed to keep his job, claiming the organization was no more political than the Boy Scouts.
At the non-risk of being hated by the NYTimes, Obama isn’t a socialist...he’s a marxist.
But, by the time Cohen realizes that fact, it will be too late.
...to a socialist.
Neither was fascist an insult to Mussolini, nor Nazi to Hitler, nor communist to Stalin.
To people who are into liberty, however, socialist is pretty insulting.
And, of course, the “ethicist” at the NYT is a socialist or, probably more precisely, an economic fascist.
Ok, it’s not an insult... how about making it a flogging offense?
The Communist worms are crawling out fro the woodwork.
“Socialist” is just the politically correct word for “communist”.
Freaking duh.
Yes...I agree, he ain’t no Socialist. He’s a full on Marxist.
I tried, repeatedly, to read that guys tripe...he rarely came up on the right side of an issue.
Anyway...that was when I still bought and paid for that bird cage liner. Haven’t for 5 years. Can’t wait to see Slime sell it to somebody else.
Obama will get the Feds to bail out the Slimes and make it the official press office of the new regime. Same content, only now the reporters will be on the actual government payroll.
Amazing. I never thought I would see the day when I would rather have the heads of Germany, France or Britain as our President more than our current U.S. President.
But that day has come.
Of course it’s not an insult. The lefties should BRAG about the fact that they are socialists. :^)
Hardly surprising for a newspaper that had a full on Communist shill (Walter Duranty) work for them.
Hey there NYT, hows your stock doing these days under Marxism?
Every last one of them.
Isn’t a “New York Times Ethicist” an oxymoron?
It's like the NY Times version of an oncologist. If the NY Times' ethicist finds any symptoms of ethics he removes those ethics surgically and recommends either radiation or toxic chemicals to make sure they don't grow back. Or else he gives you the bad news that your ethics have grown too much and you'll have to be put down like a rabid dog before they spread throughout the "news" room.
Nice attempt to spin. These aren't exclusive to socialism...in fact, they're not long available in socialism because bad management will lead to the loss of these.
What percentage of Americans already have access to health-care...100%, although not all avail themselves of it. Affordable higher education? The first schools were established by Christians and conservatives, not liberals and socialists. As for public transportation...people can spend their money how they like, they don't normally want to utilize public transportation...so building it at the cost of all for the benefit if the few is most definitely a socialist ideal...so I guess I'll give him the last point, although that gets back to the bad management thing.
Since calling someone a socialist is the same as calling someone a slave master, I guess slavery is not a bad thing anymore.
Strictly speaking, he is a fascist..
