A patient, believed to be having a stroke, says an officer with the Chattanooga Police Department blocked her husband from taking her to the emergency room at Erlanger Wednesday night.
Aline Wright is a cancer survivor, amputee and a newlywed. Wednesday night she began to show signs she was having a stroke.
"I started feeling some left arm numbness and a facial droop," said Aline.
"It appeared to me that I was probably having a stroke."
That's when her husband of four days, Jesse Wright, put her in the car and rushed her to the Erlanger Medical Center. Wright knows an emergency. He is a nurse technician at Erlanger.
On the way to the hospital, Aline says Jesse treated two red lights like stop signs. He would stop and then proceed if no traffic was coming. After Jesse ran the second stop light one block from Erlanger, the officer turned on the cruiser's blue lights and followed the couple into the emergency room parking lot.
"At that point we figured because we were so close to Erlanger emergency department that the police would be aware that's where we were going," said Aline.
According to Aline, the officer caught up with the couple as they were attempting to enter the emergency room at Erlanger Medical Center. Aline says her husband was carrying her in his arms because she could not walk. According to Aline, the officer blocked the entrance and demanded answers for running the red lights.
"He picks me up in his arms and the officer continues to block the way into the emergency room," said Aline.
"He's standing between Jesse and I, and the emergency room doors."
Aline says eventually the officer allowed them to enter the hospital, but says he didn't stop there.
Aline tells Channel 3 Eyewitness News that once the couple was placed in a hospital room, the officer attempted to enter their room to arrest Jesse for evading the police.
Thanks for your comment and I thank you and your husband for his service.
lol :)
Actually, I would behave the same way as you, and would not vote to convict somebody who had an extreme reaction to being interfered with while saving a family member. I was just pointing out a way to have possibly reduced the tension of the situation.
Personally, although my encounters with the police have been few they have more often than not been negative with officers actions typically being influenced by ego rather than law.
I think Law Enforcement is a noble profession and I respect those who are members of it. You are the thin blue line between chaos and civilized society. You protect the weak from those who would prey upon them. You are knights of the road who can wield your power and influence to protect the innocent or prey upon them just as common criminals do.
I realize that we all at times fall victim to our weaker desires but I would urge all of you to remember that we, the public, have invested in you special power and authority because we recognize you to be men and women of character and extraordinary ability. It is your choice to use what we have endowed you with to be strong in character and purpose or weak and disrespectful of the law that you are sworn to enforce. Please always seek to be worthy of that trust and respect.
Thank you for all you do on our behalf but please discourage and exclude those from your profession who are not worthy of that special trust and authority.
The cop is a lummox. I would sue if for no other reason than to make sure they get this lummox off the force, before he does any more damage.
It appears that far too many Freepers have forgotten the behavior of the police and fire departments at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Shameful!
“I also think the husband was dumb not to call 911 and have an ambulance, probably with two paramedics, take the wife to the hospital.”
.
BS!
This is the kind of thought that is destroying this world.
Everyone can legally go through a red light, after using due caution, and judging by the paramedics that I know, she was in better hands with her husband.
.
What does the fact that they’re newlyweds have to do with anything?
Also, you are only the bride and groom on the day of the wedding. After that, you’re the husband and wife.
Oh, well, then, let’s give the Boys in Blue a blank check to do whatever they want. After all, 911, etc. etc.
Badge-lapping disgusts me.
‘Badge-lapping disgusts me.’
That’s funny — I am disgusted by cop-killers and their fans.
Who said anything about cop-killers? I’m against killing anybody, especially when the people doing the killing can get away with it just because they have badges.
I’m glad you enjoy licking jackboots, though. Why not try hustling at the next police convention? I’d be willing to bet you could get a high price for your services.
Additionally, if you call 911 and advise them of an emergency in progress, you can frequently get a police escort.
Yes, and you should probably include yourself on that list.
i remember the NYPD getting into what can best be described as a gang war with the NYFD at the site a week later. The whole incident was nothing more than a jurisdictional "p!ssing contest" and the behaviour was shameful on the part of people who should have been in control of themselves.
There was video of the whole shameful incident.
Something like this?
(Durham PD officers during the trial of hero cab driver Elmostafa on bogus charges of aiding a shoplifter. He refused to back down as an alibi witness for one of Duke lacrosse players. He was acquitted.)
‘There was video of the whole shameful incident.’
So you consider the firemen and policemen going into the World Trade Center to save the people in those doomed buildings and giving up their lives by the hundreds to be a ‘shameful incident’?
What a pervert you are!
Every word you have posted on this subject is true!
America would be far better off with the entire law enforcement system slashed by 90% in every town, city and state.
So when you see the NYPD acting like jackbooted thugs on national television, assulting the NEW YORK FIRE DEPARTMENT, who gave their lives to get people out of that hell hole, to be doing their duty by attempting to beat up firemen? Fortunately, the NYFD aren't little old ladies or crippled men in wheelchairs, and weren't about to tolerate that kind of $#!t. They were able to give those jackbooted THUGS everything they could handle.
What kind of idiot are you ?
Then why hasn't your husband crossed the "thin blue line" and put a stop to the abusive cops in the force?
This is exactly the reason why the assertion that almost all cops are psychopaths (i.e. enjoy hurting other people).
A normal person would be torn up inside from having to see out of control cops ruin the lives of others and would leave the force in disgust. A person would have to be a sociopath or psychopath to continue working with these type of people.
Instead, you guys decide to let the abuse continue but just to stop inviting them to BBQs.
Unless the cop just happens to be a big fan of yours or knows you're politically connected, a person is much better off if they are not famous.
Being able to assert their authority over a famous person is a huge turn on for cops and puts a notch in their belt. Arresting an NFL star is even better as they tend to be physically imposing so it gives cops something to brag out to their buddies.
Of course, a cop working off-duty security at a night club will ignore any transgression by the club's VIPs or bouncers.
