As a rule, I abstain from music trivia on the Sunday threads, but this one is too tempting. "Onward Christian Soldiers" saw its tune written by Sir Arthur Sullivan in 1871. He was half of the famous Gilbert & Sullivan team that wrote all those wonderful comic operas.

Few today know that Sullivan wrote a lot of serious music, to include songs and symphonies. He was a leading Schubert scholar of his time.

I love Gilbert & Sullivan. Whenwver there was a G & S Opera in town, MY DAD used to take me. I had most of them memorized by the time I was in the sixth grade! LOL Thanks for the memories!
