Yes, dragnet. The so-called war on drugs will never be won because of the cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy it requires in its adherents. Alcohol IS a drug, but it’s so socially acceptable that the one attempt to prohibit it failed. Imagine if marijuana and hydrocodone pills were as socially acceptable as alchohol? Yet those substances would have fewer bad consequences on the drive home after a party than too many drinks. Pot is the whipping boy, when alcohol abuse is the substance responsible not only for many thousands of highway deaths, but also diseases and family trauma. And no, I’ve never smoked anything or even had a drink. The reason is because I’ve seen the effects of both on others in my family. Choose to believe it or not. It’s true. I used to be on the other side of this argument until someone in my family died as a result of an accident involving alcohol.
It simply cannot be compared to pot on the harmful scale.
What I find troubling, is you can pull right up in your car, and buy killer alcohol on any street corner...But pot is still illegal. Our highways are littered with alcohol containers and blood.
I personally believe it's due to the tax $ issue, and likely the alcohol producers have lobbied hard against legalizing pot.
