Why are some people suprised it’s still illegal? Well, it gets you high. We can’t have people walking around doped up and expect everything to continue business as usual. I’m glad it’s illegal because for one thing, the smell makes me sick to my tummy and for another, if it wasn’t our society wouldn’t be functioning to the standards it should. Take something small....you go sit down at a restaurant to eat and your waitress, having just had a pot break, has slurred speech, red eyes, laughs at everything you say, and in the course of asking “how is everything?” ends up snatching fries off your plate:)

However I do agree with Palin that with all the real crime going on out there it shouldn’t be a law enforcement priority.

It would be okay to have your waitress go drink a beer (as opposed to taking a hit?) pretty crazy analysis there as either is illegal in the workplace... we are talking about what people do on their own time in the privacy of their own home... not advocating people smoke pot like they smoke cigaretts (which BTW are a HUGE timewaster both when people could smoke in the workplace and now when they have to take breaks to go outside and smoke).

It seems that what liberals seem to want out of this whole marijuana legalization thing is “no discrimination against marijuana users”. The Maine referendum had a bit of that in there. The restaurant should be able to fire the waitress if the customers are unhappy with her, or for any reason whatsoever. The employer should be able to fire workers for being high at work. If they fired the stoned waitress, you wouldn’t have a problem with a stoned waitress.

There are plenty of pills that are prescribed that have pronounced psychological effects. Those aren’t illegal.

One reason why it isn’t illegal right now is they haven’t figured out who exactly would get super rich off of it, and the people who would get super rich haven’t started lobbying to legalize it.
