I think he's a psychopath, and recently, in reading discussions about Joran van der Sloot, someone pointed out that psychopaths rarely commit suicide; also, Edwards obvious narcissism is so extreme that he'd never be able to hurt a single hair on the top of his head, much less destroy his own body.

I imagine once he fully realized that Elizabeth is serious about giving their two youngest children into the custody of their elder child, their 20-something sister, in the event of Elizabeth's death --- that MAYBE he finally got off his highhorse.
