The Arizona memorial is about 150 yards from the Missouri’s bow. The location signifies the beginning and end of the war.
On the Missouri’s port side, a canvas awning shelters the brass deck marker where MacArthur stood during the ceremony. There are copies of the surrender documents in a large case and the 31 star flag that Commodore Perry took ashore in the 1853 opening of Japan to the west.

Totally agree. There are some very high tech weapons systems aboard the Missouri; our guide stated that she is kept at a "certain state of readiness" whereby she could actually be deployed for battle very quickly. This is not a mothballed ship in the traditional sense. Her engines, systems and guns are ready to go....
