PHOENIX - The battle to get additional troops onto the U.S. border with Mexico has yielded few results despite state and national pledges to do something about it.
Senator John McCain is pushing for 6,000 National Guard troops on the border, but can he pull that off in this election year? 3TV's Mike Watkiss asked him about it.

Theis @sshole will say anything to get re-elected.
I dont see youse guys patrolling the border
Whoa. Juan’s suddenly got religion.
Of course, he’ll forget all about it the day after election day, whichever way it goes.
He talks tough on illegal immigration for 6 months, just before an election, then back to amnesty for the next 5 1/2 years.
I still remember Juan’s smarmy patronizing response to the idea of using troops on the border, when he was interviewed by Bill O Reilly several years ago. Of course he was gently against it, my friend.
Juan McCain is plastic, with no fixed political principles beyond some vision of himself as an icon.
Another lie from the fake maverick.
6k of troops that cant shoot or apprehend.
Sounds like a recipe for tying up 6k of troops
McLame, why don’t you ...
SHUT
THE
F***
UP!
SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, R-ARIZ.: I do not favor using troops because they are not trained for it. They don't have the kind of qualifications necessary. I have strongly favored us using all the technical equipment that our military has including satellites, including aircraft and other technical means.
Juan actually subscribes to the technology/virtual fence approach which everyone knows will not work, as the recent abandonment of the $800 million+ boondoggle virtual fence project proved. He opposes any effective means such as a real fence and adequate personnel on the border.
Will Arizona reelect this flip/flopping, lying, open borders true believer?
The only Federal-types headed to Arizona are lawyers with an axe to grind on the governor’s backside but no troops.
Agreed
If I hear him say one more time that it only got this bad lately I'm going to scream.
With his complete "about face" on ILLEGAL immigration, he basically has stolen the issue from J.D.
I fear he is going to get re-elected.
Posse Commitatus has nothing to do with protecting the borders.
The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States,
It is a real legal hurdle
Arizona seems to suffer from some sort of manic/depressive disorder when it comes to politics. The elected Napolitano twice, they've elected Sheriff Joe several times, they go red in presidential elections, and they send McCain back to the Senate over and over. If they reelect him after his flip/flopping and lying and backstabbing since 2000, then I think the diagnosis will be confirmed.
JD has raised $1.8 million according to his online fundraising. He's said he plans to start TV ads in early July, as early voting there starts later in July. Hopefully he is saving up to make a big TV blitz the last month before August 24th.
Juan has many millions from his big donors over the years and no challenger could compete with that. I think JD's fundraising has probably been very strong compared to challengers in the past. Scott Brown was a very unusual set of circumstances and few will ever match that.
And, I've only heard Mark Levin and Rusty Humphreys openly endorse JD, of the talkers. Rush has said "the era of McCain is over", but several talkers who agree far more with JD are either supporting Juan, or remaining quiet. I've stopped listening to three because of their hypocrisy on this.
I'm hoping the campaign will be more in the news the final month before August 24th, and that JD will have the funds to run a real TV and radio ad blitz highlighting Juan's flip/flops and lies over recent years.
