'Saint Sarah' Misses the Point Newsweek Cover Story Is a Caricature of Christianity
KATHRYN JEAN LOPEZ
Youd think she were one of the mysteries of our faith, all the writing that has gone into trying to grapple with the political career and attraction to and hatred for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
In the case of the recent Newsweek cover portraying Palin as Saint Sarah in a backhanded canonization not quite the same as the Vatican approach the quandary isnt all that mysterious. The Newsweek story, written by a writer who fashions herself as an expert on religion, once again has the magazine betraying an ignorant caricature of Christianity in its newsroom.
Take, for instance: Many Christian women loathe Palin, of course, and many men love her, but a certain kind of conservative, Bible-believing woman worships her.
Im not so sure that was just a cute stylistic maneuver. The pro-life Christian conservative woman is an exotic creature in this particular venue. To the outsider, devotion to saints would be far from the strangest thing a Catholic does. Further, in a country where Barack Obama has, at times, been likened to a deity, why wouldnt someone worship Sarah Palin too?
Newsweek recounts her honesty about her most recent pregnancy. She had a dark thought. This, in Christianity, according to this newsmagazine, is anathema. Christians as human? Dark thoughts and temptations? How can that be? Never mind that perfect people would have never been in need of redemption and salvation.
But I digress from a good story.
The cover piece goes on to castigate Palin for her femininity. Palin has already overshared: Nothing makes a person, let alone a politician, ...

I flipped through that article yesterday! I’ll admit I haven’t read “Going Rogue” yet but it’s quite obvious to me that they were trying to paint her as a foaming-at-the-mouth Christian fundamentalist bible-beater without actually saying it in so many words (and certainly without any evidence of same).
Pathetic.
Pathetic, yes, but you've got to admit it hits back right at the point where the Left is most terrified of her. After all, if the only people Sarah atttracted were the fundamentalists they foam over, they wouldn't be nearly as afraid of her. But in fact, it's precisely because Sarah is attractive to women in general, as a woman, "despite" her Christianity that the Left is wetting itself.
Sarah does NOT push her faith on people - so the Left has to do it for her, like with this MSM religious hit piece. They have to convince everyone she's a Bible-thumper to scare away the women who are waking up to the fact that Sarah represents sane, conservative principles and sane, thoughtful, powerful conservative women, without being a fundamentalist.
Sarah is the real "center" that would crush the feminist lie flat, and allow women to be women again, instead of some hate-filled Che revolutionaries full of loneliness, cruelty and misery - as liberal women largely are today.
I gave up that liberal rag in the 1980s.
is that piece of crap rag of a magazine about what?....15 pages now?....bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
What an insight post - you are so right on! Thanks.
All she has to do is rest in God’s will and His light will shine on unrighteousness.
The cockroaches will fuss and scatter. The light scalds them.
He will give her and anyone else who chooses to defy the darkness the strength needed to persevere.
