In the past year, Jim DeMint, South Carolina's junior senator, has transformed himself from right-wing outlier to the Senates leading tribune of Tea Party sentiment. His influence has expanded despite -- or perhaps because of -- his willingness to thumb his nose at Republican Party elders, a trait that only adds to the intrigue about his ultimate intentions.
Does he hope to displace Mitch McConnell, the GOP leader in the Senate? Might he harbor even loftier -- that is to say, presidential -- ambitions? Or is he content to position himself as the most conservative senator in an increasingly conservative party, and to reap whatever harvest might result?
One thing is for sure: DeMint is one of the people with the most to celebrate as the strange saga of Alvin Greene, the unemployed Army veteran who is (for now) the Democratic Partys Senate candidate in South Carolina, drags on. Why? Because despite South Carolinas reputation as a Republican redoubt -- and despite the growing national buzz around DeMint -- the senators home-state standing had begun to look surprisingly shaky.
A Public Policy poll in May indicated that only 43 percent of South Carolinians approved of the job DeMint was doing in the Senate. Thirty-nine percent said that DeMint was not spending enough time focusing on his state's interests while in Washington, whereas only 38 percent said his level of commitment to advocating for South Carolina was "about right." Public Policys Tom Jensen wrote on his blog that these amounted to "pretty underwhelming approval ratings" for DeMint.

Hunter/DeMint 2012
Isn’t Public Policy polling a lib mouthpiece?
yupper
I am an un-appologetic Demint fan.
He came to the Honduras election battle that I was involved in supporting, and I greatly admire him for his spunk.
Obozo was trying to force another dictator back in power in Honduras, against the Honduran Constitution. (Just like he is destroying our Constitutional Government)
Speak Truth to Lies, Senator Demint.
As is Salon, where I got this article.
A Salon article based on a Public Policy poll result. Now THERE’S a non-biased, little slice of heaven for ya!
Make the U.S. Senate look like a Tea Party? Cool.
Any combination of Christie, Brewer, Jindal, DeMint or John Bolton, please.
I can see tht South Carolina wants an idiot for their Senator. They just voted for one to run as a Democrat. If this is what they want in South Carolina, then perhaps Mr. DeMint would be better to run for President.
Not only that but if the Democrats do not succeed in getting Greene off the ballot, he , who is a known idiot will get most of the Democrat votes.
I wouldnt place too much credence in the polls in South Carolina against DeMint.
Old Time dorks and RINO’s running the republican party better WTF up, their old ways of kissing up to Democrats and going along to get along aint cuttin’ it any longer.
Actually, Greene, now a celebrity, will do better than another rat would have. But he’s not in much danger of losing
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 25% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove... Overall, 41% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. Thats the lowest level of approval yet recorded for this president. Fifty-eight percent (58%) now disapprove.
They close with a note about his “ambition”—that old standard with which to minimize someone who is actually doing something.
DeMint is trying to make the Republican Party more faithful to its Republican principles. He is doing a great service in this. Let the potshots begin.
Public Policy Polling (PPP) is an American, Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
PPP was founded in 2001 by businessman and Democratic pollster Dean Debnam, the firm’s current president and chief executive officer.

POLL: Obama Approval Falls to Another New Low: 41%...
This is written if what Jim DeMint wants is a bad thing.
But the Oval Office?
I don’t think he’s vocal enough. MAYBE if he gets a lot louder after November.
Palin, Brewer, Christie, Bachmann, now even Jindal, are getting LOUD and ‘in Obama’s face’ . . . as did Joe Barton until someone clothes-lined him.
Vote Out the Neo-Cons and RINOs!
Music to my ears.
Demint is looking more and more like a worthy contender to watch.
That’s interesting. I thought I remembered the name as an outfit often used by dims but I didn’t realize the connections were so well defined. One would have to view their numbers especially on a conservative like DeMint as being totally worthless.
Demint:
Voted aginst Troubled Assets Relief Program
2008 (TARP)
Voted against “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” of 2009 (stimulus bill)
Voted against Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act
2009 (cash for clunkers)
Voted against Affordable Healthcare for America Act
2009 (health insurnace ‘reform’)
Voted against Patients Protection and Affordable Care Act
2010 (more health insurnace ‘reform’)
Says he will vote against “Clean Energy and
Security Act (cap and trade)
_____
I’d say keep him.
