Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker said Thursday he wants state employees to foot the bill for their portion of their pension benefits and he would lead by example.
Walker said he would pay for his portion if elected governor and he would propose in his first budget that all state employees and other elected officials do the same. Walker's share as governor would be about $5,600 a year.
Any proposal affecting unionized state workers would need to be negotiated as part of labor contracts.

Government workers should be permitted unions.
And those pensions here are really lucrative. You can retire at 55 and get eighty to one hundred and ten percent of what you made while working.
Statistics yesterday showed the State lost 8000 jobs but that was canceled out by 8000 state and federal jobs created. Wisconsin will be Greece.
Gee, I hope you meant that government workers should NOT have unions. (I hope, I hope.)
In the past couple of decades, every time the governor of WI was faced with budget problems, the legislature sweetened the pot (i.e. increased the pension calculation percentage) to get workers to retire early. That was back when the pension fund was doing well. That way, they could get the older, higher-priced workers off the payroll and out of the current state budget.

The Milwaukee paper is going out of its mind to manufacture a Walker scandal each and every day.
So far, nothing other than the rabid thrashings of a drowning candidate - the Dem nominee Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Mayor, doesn’t have a single idea of his own so he’s trying to say the GOP are inconsistent in their attacks on his “job creation” record.
Biggest single negative for Scott Walker is the fact he doesn’t have a college degree and between Neumann and Tom Barrett, I think this might hurt him with the populace. In the long run, his record is what really matters, but Walker has been foolish not to finish off his degree while in his current position.
Where did Neumann and Barrett attend college and what are their degrees?
That said, I agree that it’s a bit odd that Scott Walker hasn’t completed any manner of degree if he has higher office aspirations.
Then again, a guy who doesn’t blow a bunch of money or incur a bunch of debt on degrees when he’s already a high-performing executive would seem to be a top-flight conservative. Merit and performance over trumped up qualifications.
