PHOENIX Governor Jan Brewer said she was stunned and angered to learn during an Ecuadorean television interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the Obama Administration had decided to sue Arizona over its recently passed anti-illegal immigration law, SB1070.
Video of the interview can be seen at Governor Brewers Arizona Border Security Information website: www.azgovernor.gov/AZBorderSecurity.asp Secretary Clinton announced during the interview on June 8th that President Obama has directed the U.S. Justice Department to bring a lawsuit against the Arizona law.
This is no way to treat the people of Arizona, said Governor Brewer. To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the Secretary of State is just outrageous. If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation.
Governor Brewer said, I just visited with the President in the Oval Office about our differences over immigration policy, and the one firm understanding we had was that within two weeks he would provide details of his commitment to deploy National Guard troops to the border. While I am grateful that communications have taken place about a possible visit by Administration staff before the end of the month, there is not yet a confirmed date. More importantly, no information about additional troop and border security enhancements has been provided by the Obama Administration to the citizens of Arizona.
Governor Brewer recently announced the creation of a legal defense fund for private contributions in defense of Arizonas illegal immigration enforcement measures www.keepazsafe.com.
Over $22,000 in contributions have been made to the border legal defense fund since its announcement yesterday evening. Over $26,000 had previously been sent unsolicited to the Governor for legal defense of Arizona, for an approximate total of $48,000 in the fund.
sad....a nation that hate’s it’s own existence.
The Constitution means as much to the people in charge of this country as a piece of toilet paper. Probably less.
More likely he and his cohorts think they can do whatever they want and we will just sit back and take it. And why shouldn’t they? After all, when was the last time that Americans actually stood up to the federal government in any great numbers? Nearly a century and a half ago? All I can say is that if this is stopped soon, then we as a people are done for.
Well, if conservatives would get busy in replacing these corrupt GOP officials with our own people, we wouldn’t have to worry about making them feel the heat.
No need to call off elections when there are millions of illegal alien invaders who can help elect Democrats, well, illegally.
RE: “I hope AZ finally gets enough of this crap and seceeds. Apparently Gov Good Hair of Texas doesnt have the guts to do it. If AZ does I suggest we come up with a password so we can all arm ourselves and head to the AZ borders, all of them, and help them maintain their republic. I claim first dibs on the California side”

I was talking to a friend about this entire immigration mess just tonight, with a friend who is a lifelong Dem but is sick to death of what’s going on in this country and in AZ in particular.
My friend said he’d heard on some network or other the suggestion that we build two very high fences at the border the border with a 30 foot trench between them, and fill the trench with razor wire. After a few of ‘them’ got caught up in that, we’d likely see an end to our, ahem, problem. I like it.
Just curious, but why is your friend still a Democrat?
Now, now, you mustn’t say such things about W the Great or you will send the Bushbots into a tizzy to rival their cousins on the left, the Obamatons. Repeat after me: I shall never say an unkind word about George W. Bush/ Barack Obama no matter how true it may be, so help me God.
Sad but true. If Texans spent as much time actually making our state great as they do about bragging about how great it is, our state would be a lot better off.
WTH is the Sec. of State think she’s doing? You don’t go to another country and discuss an American problem! It’s none of their effing business!
The Obama Admiistration has a long row to hoe on this one, I think ...
Article VI - Debts, Supremacy, Oaths
... This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
Amendment 10 - Powers of the States and People.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Note: Anything not expressly granted to the Federal government is reserved for the States or the People. Although this amendment is very liberally interpreted, it is one of the tenets of the Constitution. This amendment is also known as the States’ Rights Amendment.
*****
The way I see it, the Constitution says that the Constitution is THE LAW. And the LEGAL laws made by Congress pursuant to it ARE THE SUPPORTING LAWS.
And the 10th Amendment allows states to FOLLOW THE LAW - since it IS NOT reserved to the federal goverment, NOR prohibited to the states.
If the Obama Administration’s policy was to enforce the law and Arizona refused to follow it - the Supreme Court would rule AGAINST Arizona.
IMPEACH OBAMA !!!! This is treason!
you gotta wait....not enough in congress to impeach yet. we will have to wait till january 2011 at least.
Obama is nothing but anti-American trash.
I wouldn have expected something more honorable from a poster named after the Boy Major, the Gallant Pelhman. How disappointing...
Cheers back atcha. Enjoy your made up world. (and try posting without pinging the I-hate-Bush posse, OK? Builds character)
Are you stalking me? LOL!
That may not do it; Republicans have shown that they are not much better at enforce immigration law.
