She can eat and drink the best till she dies.
All the wealth in the world will not make up for the deep inner emptiness. A life spent in telling lies. A fortune built on misfortune. The barren waste of a dark soul. Power usurped, wealth purloined, babies murdered.
There is nothing - literally nothing - that this world could give me that would be worth living as that barren soul.
This could be the portrait of so many of them, her, Dodd, Reid, Frank. The more you try to name, the more you realize there is no end to the list.....

That picture, if I recall correctly, was shown at the end of “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, a 1945 MGM production with Hurd Hatfield and George Sanders. It was the only part of the movie in color.

Eloquently stated, shibumi. And, judging from many seniors I’ve seen who finally reach retirement, there is NO guarantee that anyone will retire with their MIND intact, even if the BODY is perfectly healthy. All the botox and the best medical care in the world cannot stave off the inevitable. Of course, I’ve seen mental deficiencies in Piglosi for a long, long time. I’d think retirement for her would be a lonely, miserable existence without a country to control.
