As far as McCain, I would say that is a symptom of the problem I describe. The media managed to “support” him as a “centrist” and a “maverick” yada yada.
Of course once that managed to get him the nomination, they turned to a different sheet of music.
Let’s not try to “please” the media or concern ourselves with whom the liberals will ‘accept.’ Let’s make our own choices and stand beside them when the inevitable crucifixion mob comes a screechin’.
That’s all I’m saying.
As I recall, it was initally something like 300 ethics charges sprayed at Newt. Perhaps 220 were quickly dismissed. certainly 299 of them were baseless. But it is a neat trick do drop 300 charges worth of red meat to your media pit bulls just before an election and who cares when all are dropped after.
You are focusing on the statement, “ the MSM successfully demonized him” and disregarding the rest. The fact is, the MSM did successfully demonize him. If Newt had not been a inside the beltway, typical politician, willing to to comprise on conservative values to get some “face-time” with Hillary and Nancy, then he would have had, and still have, support from the the conservative base.
In other words, the MSM is going to demonize conservatives, but conservatives only throw their own under the bus when the person getting thrown demonstrates their personal ambition trumps prinicples.
By the way Dan Quayle has more family values and conservative principles in his little finger than Newt has ever had, in his own mind.
