Police arrest civil rights leaders after school board takeover
By Thomas Goldsmith and T. Keung Hui - Staff writers
RALEIGH -- Police arrested four civil rights protesters, including state NAACP head Rev. William Barber and author Tim Tyson, after they refused to leave tonight's Wake County school board meeting. The arrests started about an hour-and-a-half after the biracial group disrupted the meeting, speaking and singing to empty seats when the board recessed, then taking over the elective body's own seats.
In addition to Barber and Tyson, author of the personal civil rights history "Blood Done Sign My Name," police arrested civil rights activist Mary Williams, a gospel singer and Wake schools parent who teaches a course with Tyson, and Pullen Memorial Baptist Church minister Nancy Petty. They were taken in handcuffs to the Wake County jail where all four were charged with second degree trespassing and released on a promise to appear in court at various dates next month.
Barber, Tyson, Williams and Petty spoke at length as Margiotta and board attorney Ann Majestic conferred about possible reactions.

NAACP President Rev. William Barber is escorted from the board room in handcuffs by Raleigh Police after he was arrested for staging a sit-in with three other activists during a recess by the Wake school board during their meeting on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Wake County School's headquarters on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.
Tomorrow night they’re taking over an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Two of these worthies (Barber and Tyson) were actively involved in trying to railroad three innocent out-of-state students for a rape that never happened.
It’s a case commonly referred to as “Scottsboro II” (otherwise known as the Duke lacrosse case).
So much for their commitment to civil rights and equal protection of the laws for all citizens regardless of their color or ethnic origin...
Fat dude be lookin to see if’n anybody watchin.’
People like that and Sharptongue and Jackson are never held accountible. Jackson should have gone to federal prison after a tax audit, but the feds got all wee wee’d up.
Oh wow...Michelle will be disappointed in him.
He obviously hasn’t been doing the Michelle hula hoop workout or following her healthy eating guidelines.
Incidentally, from a cop’s perspective, what’s wrong with that picture?
Huh.. That’s a poorly written article. Apparently, there is someone or something named “Tedesco” involved, and apparently the “protest” is over changing “diversity” policies. Something like that. It’s hard to tell what’s going on. Some of the article is even written in the present tense.
The man is handcuffed with his hands in front of him.
Not smart.
Not enough cops? Not enough Brylcreem? What?
he looks like he’s going to tip over. I don’t think his arms reach to his back to be handcuffed.
Is there a chance that bubba couldn't be handcuffed in the rear without using the entire force's cuffs as extensions?
ACK! Everything. Hands cuffed in front, subject holding onto cop's hand, big suspect that can use the handhold to dump the cop on the floor and knee-thump to the chest (which, with his size, game over).
Really bad tactical situation.

Oh, I’m sure they do. But I doubt the Rev., who is obese, would be comfortable in the back seat of a squad car.
Remember when Joran Van Der Sloot was first arrested on Aruba and placed in a police vehicle? He had his hands cuffed BEHIND his back and appeared uncomfortable as hell.
Sorry, subject, not suspect.

Brylcreem?? Get serious, ‘dat be Afrosheen! LOL!
Yes. A guy that size could yank the cop’s arm right out of its socket.
