Here's my other problem with this list -- IT IGNORES A LOT OF LATIN AMERICAN GUITARISTS who are arguably some of the most versatile players in the world.
What the heck is Neil Young doing in the list ? Look don't get me wrong, he's a great musician, but what has he shown regarding guitar virtuosity to merit being on this list?
On the other hand JOSE FELICIANO, a very versatile who can play almost all types of genres is left out...
Then there's the great Brazilian virtuoso, Laurindo Almeida, who can play Classical, Chamber, Bosa Nova, Flamengo, Pop and even Jazz. This man won several Grammies for his work and should be included among the greats.
One of the few lifetime experiences that I will never forget was when I partied with Jose in Silverado Canyon, CA. He lived nearby in Orange, CA at the time and made it a habit to come have fun with us locals. It gave him a chance to hang out with ‘regular’ people, no fanfare, no pressure, just fun!
Imagine sitting in a smoke-filled room with maybe 8-10 people listening to him play till the sun came up! He should be in the top 10 along with Kottke, Fahey and Segovia.
