WASHINGTON A majority of Americans disapprove of how President Barack Obama has handled the devastating Gulf oil spill though far more blame BP for what people call a sluggish two-month response, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll released Tuesday.
It comes as the president seeks to show more forceful leadership in confronting the nation's worst environmental crisis and convince a skeptical public he's up to the task.
The survey found that 52 percent don't approve of Obama's handling of the spill, a significant increase from last month when a big chunk of Americans withheld judgment. But Obama's overall job performance rating didn't take a hit; it stayed virtually the same at 50 percent. That's consistent with the public's attitudes throughout his young presidency; people generally like him but don't necessarily agree with his policies.

It’s a poll of “Adults,” not “Likely Voters.” Watch Rasmussen, that’s the poll that counts.
I neither like him nor agree with his policies.
Heckuva job, Barry!
Even Jimmy Carter is in awe of Obama’s stint so far. He’s likely off the hook as the worst modern Presidency ever... and that takes some doing.
That's our REAL problem that we don't discuss much: Our population was stupid enough to elect him.
Or “Hey, who unplugged Mr. Teleprompter?!”
Conservatives may have more realistic expectations, but don't like Obama for other reasons which likely skews the poll a bit.
I don't think the spill is the administration's fault, nor do I think they have handled it especially poorly. I don't think there is much they can do, nor would I expect for them to be able to do much considering the circumstances.
I feel Obama is a poor leader and incompetent CIC, but not because of the spill.
Yep, the govt. should have been focused mainly on the clean up and containment of the oil. Instead, they were more focused on law suits and extracting money. I keep saying if I was BP, I would give Obama and this country a big middle finger, and permanently move my operations out of this country and take my money with me. Obama gives billions to Brazil to drill in waters there, but he has suspended all drilling here. Still, most Americans are only upset at Obama because he hasn’t crushed the neck of BP yet. We get what we deserve; we deserve Obama.
Just predicting the MSNBC response :)
gave BP waivers on inspections
purposely ignored the spill for almost two weeks, knowing the extent of the disaster
won't grant the states the waivers they need to protect their shorelines
has been ineffectual and angrily flailing about like a drowning man since admitting the problem.
What's not to like?
Don’t get too upset if his numbers go up a couple of points maybe 5 for a short while. An Oval Office address always does that. He will then fall back to earth again. Remember, even the terrible Carter got a big bump at the beginning of the hostage crisis.
IF the American people KNEW the truth, it would be in the 70-80% range..but they don’t know (becuase of the media) that Obama was the #1 receipient of BP campaign monies...that Rham used a rent free apartment of a BP agent...that Obama did NOT excerise the powers he had by law to IMMEDIATELY begin clean up/protective work...
Instead he played golf and went to fund raisers.

I’ll try and maintain as best I can..
This is series stuff going down.
How do you sell cap-and-trade on BP’s dime?
The Master of Ceremony is about to take a stab at it.
Eternal campaigner.
Good ol’ Charlie.. lol
I got the same impression of that place after a few visits. After the spill, I started reading it after someone posted their website on FR. It didn’t take long to figure out they were a bunch of eco snots. I sure hope they are wrong about this latest scare article....it sounds very dire.
