The U.S. doesn't need to lie down. The U.S. doesn't need to roll over. We're playing in a tournament where the majority of the other countries in the world are already better at the sport than we are. Ergo, we can go out there and play our best game, win some of them but lose other ones, and we will not get near to winning the World Cup.

What a moron.

I grasp from the xenophobic “nationalist pride” that other nations (who’ve long surrendered their military might) exhibit at the World Cup, that this is how these nations still “flex their muscle”.

Persons of all nationalities still chant for “their country’s team” no matter where they currently reside. They beat the crap out of “soccer fans” who are of the wrong nationality (some would call that xenophobia or racist or at least a hate crime).

Since America doesn’t get worked up over it, they can’t rub our face in it when America loses. It irks them that we don’t care.

In “the future” corporate entities ruled the world and battled in “Rollerball” tournaments.
