In Torrance, CA, oddly, the cockatiel noticed this one coming and squawked a bit. Then, the upstairs family members felt a very subtle roll. Downstairs, I didn’t feel it, but the light fixture was swaying.

Hope everybody near the epicenter is ok.

I know what it is like upstairs.

I have been in a friends home upstairs when they hit.

Funny, they always run outside, I just watch stuff move.

You didn’t miss anything.

Noory mentioned it for about 10 seconds, but evidently nobody at their studio felt it, so he moved on.

Now it’s Catherine Fitz(sp?), explaining how we’re all doomed.

Something is shaking loose - maybe a waterway on the border

I'd be nervous about having land below sea-level like you find around the Salton Sea and other parts.

If you wanted to break something in two, you'd look for the weakest part and if the Pacific plate is heading North, that friction could eventually bust-off everything West of these low-lying areas until the Salton Sea becomes a real sea (or bay, actually) with fish in it.

As an experiment, take a couple of graham crackers, thin an area near the edge on one, and then rub the two together (left hand up, right hand down) and see if it cracks into the area that was made 'shallow' intentionally. If that doesn't work, try smacking the pieces together. Or, if that doesn't work, raise and lower each piece against one another and smack the edges together (this should work).

If it still hasn't broken, place dark chocolate and marshmellows on each piece- put it under the broiler for 2-4 mins. and eat them both. I forget what it's called, but when my mom made them we never gave a thought about earthquakes. And, mysteriously didn't have any.

We moved here in ‘81. Our first big experience was the Coalinga ‘quake. You’ll get used to them but you’ll always get a bit of an adrenalin rush and goosebumps when one hits.

“Yeah, I experienced that too - on top of Mission Valley.”

I live on top of Mission Valley! South side around Talmadge/Kensington.

We were watching TV and I loved the rolling quakes! I am happy I was here. I’ve been waiting for the big one all my life, and don’t believe it’s ever coming. Our building codes are sound.

any details?

Yes... I slept right through it. (Apparently, neither it nor whatever was on TV at that moment was all that interesting.)

s’mores.

As soon as you started talking about graham crackers, I thought of them.

Or graham crackers and milk.

Good thing to have in your earthquake kit;-)

Are you prepared for the Big One?

I guess I need to be! I just moved back to SoCal after being away for 20 years...

Tough call.

I came back after 20 years away in the military. The place has changed...for the worse...but we get to be close to family again. We aren't here for good though...still have a house in Alabama.
