A U.S. Senate candidate asked for a new Democratic primary Monday after he lost last week to an unemployed military veteran who raised no money and had no signs and no ads.
The Democratic Party's 92-member executive committee plans a hearing Thursday on former state lawmaker Vic Rawl's protest and could order the primary results overturned. State party leaders can't remember that ever happening before. Rawl could also appeal to the state Supreme Court.
Pundits have been puzzled since Alvin Greene, a 32-year-old political unknown, defeated Rawl in the primary to see who would face GOP U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, the heavy favorite in the fall. Greene won with 59 percent of the vote to 41 percent for Rawl.
Rawl, now a Charleston County council member, says he campaigned statewide, put 17,000 miles on his car and, in the days before the primary, sent out hundreds of thousands of e-mails and automated phone calls seeking voter support. Greene claims he traveled the state to talk to voters, but he had no campaign organization and no website. He did not return a call Monday.

Rawl said at a news conference in Charleston that he suspects Greene's victory is due to either voting machines or software malfunctioning.
"As to who did it, why they did, whether it was an accident or was intentional, I have no idea and I don't feel comfortable commenting on that," he said.

How is he protesting a loss. I mean he lost. doesn’t matter if it was Mickey Mouse on the ballot against him the fact is that he lost end of story. Dems don’t like it because he is black.
Puzzled how people could dislike him so much and vote for ther other guy.

Greene is sitting on a gold mine. Look for the president to offer him a job in WH security in exchange for him bowing out. That’s whore house security.

I heard on the radio this morning that some of the black stations were talking about Green being black and Rawls being white. I don’t know if that true but it would explain how Green won and why there were disparities in the returns from different areas.

Don’t think he will fare well at all against Demint but he shouldn’t lose his spot on the ballot just because the dnc doesnt like him. Let him run

Friendly advice for Vic Rawl: After losing this race, you may want to find another career. The truth is that the voters don’t love you and never will if you can’t even beat a joke of a candidate who isn’t even funny as a protest vote.
I think the SC Dems cut their teeth as kids on blowing up churches and burning crosses, then spent their adolescence burning flags and spitting on troops coming back from Vietnam- this explains their hatred and hostility towards a black Army veteran.

However, South Carolina Demorats have NEVER been smart...from trying to start a Civil War against Andrew Jackson, to actually starting a Civil War 30 years later, to fighting against Civil Rights for African-Americans a 100 years later, now to this 21st Century Political Lynching.
