Rossi vs. Didier (Whoa Nelly)
Seattle.com ^ | 6/14/10 | staff

Dino Rossi and Clint Didier—the anointed GOP candidate and the Tea Party candidate in the de facto August Republican primary going for the chance to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray in November—both spoke and answered questions at a Tea Party event yesterday in Vancouver in advance of this weekend’s Republican convention there.

The Everett Herald has an excellent report:

Where Rossi avoided direct answers to most of the questions, Didier didn’t, and his answers were what they wanted to hear.

For example, on whether each backed Arizona’s controversial law dealing with immigrants, Rossi responded that the nation needs a “tall fence and high gate” to deal with those crossing into the country illegally.

Didier simply said, “Yes ma’am, I am 100 percent behind it.”

On whether to audit or ax the Federal Reserve, Rossi said audit then decide while Didier said, “After we get done auditing it, we need to get rid of it.”

The two differed sharply on whether the United States should leave the United Nations.

Rossi said the U.S. should “be careful” about a pullout and look to use its veto power to deal with other countries.

Didier said, “I want the United States out of the U.N. and the U.N. out of the United States.’

Moments after Didier departed, organizers revealed results of a straw poll of the race. To no one’s surprise, Didier picked up 99 votes and Rossi had 12.

This would all be much more daunting for Rossi and the establishment party if delegates to this weekend’s convention were actually nominating a candidate. They are not.

I would say Patty Murray is as bad as yours (I assume you are in CA). Cantwell is slightly better, but still unacceptable.

Murray has to be top 3 material, along with Babs, for dumbest Senator in history.

Didier will slaughter Murray. Murray beats milquetoast Republicans like a bongo. No such luck this time, Patty

The mouse is the one caveating all of his answers, rather than making his positions clear.
Caveats might be nice academic and even real world tools, but they’re lousy in the campaign tool kit.

“Ouch” is right. Didier is just the sort of fellow that will make the Tea Party folks look like loons.

I’ve happily volunteered on past Rossi campaigns, and have been a neighbor and friend of Rossi’s chief campaign organizer. But I am 100% behind Didier leading up to this Primary and will be voting for Didier over Rossi in the Primary. If Rossi wins, then of course I will do all that I can to make sure he sends Patty Murray packing in November.

If Didier does not win, I would hope that this campaign does Didier a great service and he will be back to take down Cantwell in 2012

He is not. He was praised handily on FR when he was running for governor as a very conservative politician. He is not liberal by any means. Seriously they loved him when he was running against Gregouir.

Didier’s positions wouldn’t get him elected in socialist Washington, but they’re definitely entertaining!

Exactly the problem. I believe Dino's the most conservative/electable candidate in the race.

Which one do you think is the mouse?

The one who merely whimpered as the scumbag Gregoire stole the gubernatorial election?

With Angle and now Didier (I’m a Redskins fan, too)...saying what I think, I want to shout it from the rooftops.

Deport
End the Fed
Close the EPA, Dept. of Ed and HUD
Close the border, re-vamp welfare immigration
End public unions

We need common sense and get Obie out of the WH.

I don't give a rip where he was praised. If the guy can't unequivocally state that he supports AZ's immigration law and that the UN is a nest of socialists committed to opposing individual rights and American interests at every turn then he's a typical mealy-mouthed pol.
