ATLANTA - The University System of Georgia is requiring colleges to verify that no illegal immigrant students are paying in-state tuition or getting financial aid.
The state's 35 public colleges and universities have two months to sift through more than 300,000 students. No estimate has been given yet for how much the project will cost.
The move stems from the discovery that Kennesaw State University student was living in the country illegally but paying in-state tuition. That violates a 2006 policy set by Chancellor Erroll Davis that prohibits campuses from giving taxpayer-subsidized tuition rates to undocumented students.
Out-of-state tuition is about three times what in-state students pay.
Georgia, in spite of our lefty AG who won’t sue the feds over HC, is doing its part.
Now let’s do for public schools!
I know someone who works at a hospital. I asked her how “business” was and she said nearly every woman giving birth was an illegal from Mexico.
That would be the ideal. Public schools in the area are beginning to acknowledge the cost of illegals. No property taxes are paid but schools are being overwhelmed.
We shall see.
Meanwhile, look what else is afoot...
DREAM Act......United we DREAM is on Facebook
"The DREAM Act, S. 2075, was introduced in November 2005 by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Richard Lugar (R-IN), to amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). The DREAM Act removes the section of the IIRIRA that discourages states from providing in-state tuition to undocumented students and creates the opportunity for these students to achieve permanent resident status. This bill addresses... (read more...

In-State Tuition and Unauthorized Immigrant Students
In 1996, the illegal immigration reform law instituted a restriction on states' residency requirements and in-state tuition benefits for higher education, affecting an estimated 50,000-65,000 unauthorized immigrant students annually.
Eleven states subsequently enacted legislation to allow long-term unauthorized immigrant students to become eligible for in-state tuition if they meet certain requirements: California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin. In 2008, Oklahoma ended its support for in-state tuition for students without lawful presence.
Congress has been considering bipartisan legislation to repeal this provision and help certain immigrant students gain legal status. In the 110th Congress, legislation in both the House and Senate was introduced with bipartisan cosponsorship.
We must be getting the illegals who are afraid to go to Arizona now.
Must be Gwinnett County. They just had a story in the AJC, Gwinnett is now a minority majority county.
I’ll be gone from Gwinnett in 6 days!!

FOR YOUR REFERENCE Obama Orders Dance Classes, Movie Nights, and Bingo for Illegal Detainees; ICE to make detention centers more humane
Houston Chronicle | June 8, 2010 | By SUSAN CARROLL
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are preparing to roll out a series of changes at several privately owned immigration detention centers, including relaxing some security measures for low-risk detainees and offering art classes, bingo and continental breakfast on the weekends.
The changes were welcomed by immigrant advocates who have been waiting for the Obama administration to deliver on a promise made in August to overhaul the nation's immigration detention system.
The 28 changes identified in the e-mail range from the superficial to the substantive. In addition to softening the look of the facility with hanging plants and offering fresh carrot sticks, ICE will allow for the free movement of low-risk detainees, expand visiting hours and provide unmonitored phone lines.
ICE officials said the changes are part of broader efforts to make the immigration detention system less penal and more humane. But the plans are prompting protests by ICE's union leaders, who say they will jeopardize the safety of agents, guards and detainees and increase the bottom line for taxpayers.
Tre Rebstock, president for Local 3332, the ICE union in Houston, likened the changes to creating an all-inclusive resort for immigration detainees. Other major changes include:
Eliminating lockdowns and lights-out for low-risk detainees.
Allowing visitors to stay as long as they like in a 12-hour period.
Allowing low-risk detainees to wear their own clothing or other non-penal attire.
Providing e-mail access and Internet-based free phone service.
Not about punishment "It's not about punishing people for a crime they committed. Rosenberg said some of the changes, like new flower baskets, may seem small, but they will combine with the bigger changes to make a difference in the daily lives of detainees. Taken together they will go some way to making this system less penal, she said. (Excerpt) Read more at chron.com
