YAKIMA, Wash. -- In 2005, gang members gunned down a reputed drug dealer and his 3-year-old daughter in Yakima. On May 30 this year, a brazen daylight shooting killed an 18-year-old Yakima man in a gang-related dispute.
Both times, Yakima police Chief Sam Granato said the homicides were perfect examples of why the federal government should lead a Yakima-based Safe Streets task force dedicated to combating what he describes as the growing complexity of Yakima's gangs.
"I think we are going to be dealing with a lot more sophisticated gang members from here on out," Granato said.
It's looks like he may finally get his wish.

My aunt and uncle just moved back to MN after 20 years in Yakima. They couldn’t be happier.

Three drive-by hootings in three days in Sunnyside, 30 miles away. Youts 15, 15 and 17 arrested for one or more of those incidents.

A hundred years ago, does anyone think that this would be tolerated. No!
Those gang members would have been taken out behind the barns and had the what's-what's splained to them.
Our society has been so 'feminized and emasculated' that we can't do anything any more.
Recently I had a conversation with one of the sheriff's deputies. I told him that the only thing between me and an assault on me or my property was me. Because he would not be there. He agreed and said that I would have to be the one to protect my family and property.
I don't know where this idea that just more money can solve the 'problem'. More money hasn't made the schools any better, for example.
Who are the gang members? Why is ICE involved? Are the gangsters illegals?
Are you sure that's it? Or is it really that government sees the armed citizen as a much greater threat to its continued existence than the gang member (a useful tool) is, and punishes the two accordingly?
Were this not the case, armed citizens would have ended gang activity in the US decades ago.
It has more to do with mindset than with citizens being armed. There are plenty of citizens that are armed.
But the police are afraid of both the armed citizen as well as the armed gang- banger. And the judges as well as the lawyers are more in favor of the gang-bangers than the victims. In nearly every case the victim gets the short end in the courts.
