Too damned bad. Tough luck, kid; you should have made sure you had all your paperwork in proper order, first. Under our current immigration laws he has never had a chance or "path" to get his paperwork in proper order....his situation is "unfixable". I have no problem with the argument that he's taking an American's place at Harvard and that is wrong...but don't pretend that "he just forgot to fill out some form or pay a filing fee, otherwise everything would be OK".

The point is to comply with the laws you’re subject to, and please don’t try to set me up as a strawman for whatever suits your flavor of the day. If his illegal status was “irreparable” then so be it, although I have yet to find anything that depends on formalities rather than substance that is truly “irreparable.” The bottom line is - life ain’t fair, no-one with any authority to grant such ever said it would be - and if you can’t make yourself “legal” then get the h*ll out of here.
