Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- The first poll coming out of California following Tuesday's primary election, where pro-life candidate Carly Fiorina is taking on stalwart abortion activist Sen. Barbara Boxer, shows Fiorina trailing by five percent. The race will likely become one of the marquee battles for the pro-life movement in 2010.

The new Rasmussen Reports poll shows both Boxer and Fiorina received small bumps in their numbers after he Tuesday election.

Now, its survey of likely voters has Boxer picking up 48% support over Fiorina’s 43% and another 5 percent support another candidate while five percent are undecided.

Support for both nominees is at its highest level so far this year as the last poll conducted before the primary election had Boxer with a 45 to 38 percent lead over Fiorina.

"Before the Republican Primary, Fiorina was running worse than primary opponent Tom Campbell, a former congressman. But Fiorina came up strong on Tuesday, picking up 56% of the vote over Campbell’s 22%," Rasmussen notes.

Boxer, who is seeking a fourth six-year term, has yet to reach the 50% level of support in the general election -- a critical mark for incumbents

What a terrible race. One woman is pure evil and both are spectacularly incompetent.

Don’t be so sure that that factor is in our favor in that state.

Bologna. As long as the Republicans shy away from defending our constitutional rights, I’ll shy away from voting for them. There is NO excuse for supporting anyone who refuses to defend our fundamental unalienable right to life. Especially someone running for the senate. That’s their primary job function!

I am sincerely surprised that it is this close. Carly has a real shot at it.

I don’t normally go around saying polls are wrong(except Quinnipiac)but they can’t measure enthusiasm nor are they measuring just how fed up people are with the status quo.

You may be right but I doubt it. I actually hope you are right and if I have to eat crow I'll add some tobasco sauce to make it palatable. But the last time I checked an enthusiastic vote counted the same as a lackadaisical vote. There are over 1 million more registered Democrats than Republicans in California. That means we need to win moderates in a big way and even some Democrats. I hope we can!

But Jim, even if the Republicans had the same advantage in the House and Senate that the Democrats now have AND even at the same time we held the Presidency, how would we overturn Roe? I can't see how we can do this with the present Supreme Court and I really can't see a Constitutional Amendment. So what to do?

You either defend our rights to the hilt or you don’t get my support.

Not about eating crow. I’ll bet on the enthusiastic vote showing up over the lackadaisical one every day of the week.
Its the only point i’m making here.
