Why does it perplex you so? All jews are not Zionists. Wouldn't it make sense that fervent Israel supporting jews would want to move to Israel already?
And that the remainder of the jewish diaspora could be more or less indifferent to Zion, but still be good jews.

There is a fundamental unfairness to singling out Israel, beset with enemies on every side, as the sole source of the problems of the Middle East. It’s a lot easier for American Jews to be seen as liberals and progressives than as supporters of Israel.
I believe in Sweden as an ethno-state, but I have no reason to go there. American Jews don't care about Israel because most are indifferent to Judaism, as their religion is liberalism with a lox and shmear.
