A study has found that passive smoking is not only bad for lungs and heart but also has a negative impact on mental health. It is already known that passive smoking can lead to problems like respiratory illnesses and heart trouble. Now a close link between passive smoking and mental health has been found by the researchers.
Researchers analyzed 5,560 non-smoking and 2,595 smoking adults from Scotland aged between 50 and 45 years. All the people did not suffer from any mental health problems. These people were queried about psychological distress and admissions to psychiatric hospitals and these people were then tracked for the next six years.
Almost 14.5% of the people were reported to be suffering from psychological distress. It was found that people who were more exposed to passive smoking were at a higher risk of developing these problems. It was found that 62% of these people were likely to suffer from psychological distress as compared to people who were not exposed to passive smoking. The risk for smokers to suffer from psychological distress was almost three times higher.
In the next 6 years, 41 of these people were admitted to psychiatric hospitals. People who were exposed to passive smoking were at a higher risk as compared to people who were not exposed to smoking. Health experts point that it is very important to stay away from passive smoking as it can have a serious impact on a person's overall health.
Huffington Posts reports Aquino: "Obama Offered To Help Me Quit Smoking"
"Philippine President-elect Benigno Aquino, Obama apparently offered to provide advice on how to quit to Aquino, who has previously vowed to "stop smoking at the appropriate time."
The subject was broached by Aquino in what the Filipino leader described as an attempt to inject "some humor" into their conversation.
"Mr. President, I understand we have the same issue with smoking," Aquino said he told Obama, according to the AP. "He said, 'Well I quit that already. I have quit. It's your sole problem. At the time that you decide to quit, I'll send the advice."
Smoking sucks. And it’s mostly a liberal trait. Strange that so many conservatives support it.
I am waiting for the studies to come out and say smoking causes STD’s....some tyrant will do a study and find the connection....
Any of you guys touch my stuff...........and I’ll kill ya.
I am waiting for the studies to come out and say smoking causes STDs
Yeah, the smoke after the deed.
I was told by a doctor [who had never smoked himself]that had studied the effects of smoking linked to cancer etc for many years - there are times when smoking was beneficial - to our military when in foxholes during WW's. Relieved stress.
LOL.
When I quit smoking I started having the mental issues. (Or maybe there were their all along.) :-o
there = they

hahaha Yeah, try vapin’ around a smoker, one can get pretty mental wanting the real deal!
The e-cigs are great but when I’m around the real deal, I sure do want one again!
conservatives believe in individual freedom...liberals want to control your life...
Chin beards and poor hygiene also suck and are primarily liberal traits. But freedom means freedom to smell bad, to smoke, or to look like a doofus.
Yay! More made up “studies” to brainwash the sheep..
Smoking pipes and cigars is conservative, and one of the finer pleasures in life. Pipes and cigars are correlated with a longer, wealthier life, although correlation does not imply causation.
It's a legal activity - at least as of right now. It's not a question of supporting smoking (i.e. no one is saying, "Hey, go out and smoke all you want. It's great!). What we're supporting is allowing people to do any legal activity they want in their own homes and cars. We're also supporting government keeping its hands off businesses. If they want to allow some legal activity to occur in their establishment, i.e. smoking, then government should not be able to tell them they can't.
I'm surprised you don't understand that. :::shrug:::
I stopped reading right there, because the "researchers" themselves made the determination that "all the people did not suffer from any mental problems!"
I have serious real reservations about that statement, based on demonstrable reality, not wishful thinking by the neurotic.
Just walk through a restaurant or a department store with a fake plastic cigarette in you mouth. I do that regularly to remind myself of the shaky mental health of a significant portion of our population.
About 25% of the people I meet while doing that will get angry, belligerent and claim instant physical distress from my "smoking in a prohibited area."
Seems like real, demonstrable, neurotic mental health problems to me.
Any subsequent conclusions based on a defectivly chosen group are worse than useless; they're fraudulent.
Another form of "anthropogenic global warming" fraud, anyone?
For the record, I am not defending smoking, just retarded arguments and phony research by the anti-smokers.
Make tobacco illegal and be done with it. I will support you.
Problem solved.
...freaking nut-case hypocrites!
I'm with you there on that one, jerri.
Sure...let’s pretend (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)that smoking doesn’t start with kids. That 95% of all smokers start under age 18, become addicted and can’t quit.
Then let’s paradoxically argue it’s an adult right, while we ignore the kids. Then lets mock everyone that points out it’s children that are impacted.
Its about the only way a conservative can get a liberal to redistribute their wealth ... they smoke, we own Philip Morris stock.
Speaking of liberal traits, I am not a conservative, nor do I defend or support it.
I do challenge nut jobs putting words in other people's mouths and then attacking the red herring.
