Wrong. Maturity has little to do with it. Circumnavigating the globe is an issue of experience. There’s no way you can convince me that a 16 year old has acquired the years of knowledge and experience needed to safely undertake such an endeavor.

I agree with you. There was a time when young people had to take extraordinary risks because of the age in which they lived. Many died, too. While we might coddle our young, they don’t have to take the risks that one time had to be undertaken for survival. Everyone involved with this undertaking has shown an incredible lack of wisdom and maturity. I expect that of Abby. She’s young and young people tend to think they can take on the world. It’s through living and experience that they learn they can’t. It’s the reason young people need parents. Hers have let her down in a huge way. I hope she is found very soon.

Less than one month ago, Jessica Watson, 16 years old, completed a similar voyage after 7 months at sea. On sailing forums the general view after one month was that she was going to make it, because it was a well planned voyage being executed extraordinaly well.
