Judge to Blagojevich: Stop gesturing at trial

CHICAGO – A federal judge says the famously demonstrative former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will have to learn to sit still and not express his emotions at his corruption trial.

On the second day of testimony Thursday, prosecutors complained that Blagojevich made gestures and comments the day before during testimony by Blagojevich's former chief of staff, Alonzo Monk.

Prosecutors say several jurors clearly took notice.

Testifying for the prosecution, Monk painted a picture Wednesday of how he, Blagojevich and three others concocted a scheme to make money illegally.

Judge James Zagel told the defendant not to make any facial or other expressions during the trial.

...Um, since when did the courtrooms impose a sense of “military bearing” on the defendant?

it’s his trial- let him behave any way he wants.

I am almost beginning to think there might be somthing to his claims that Obammy’s folks are involved in this.

The “Chicago Seven” judge ordered Booby Seale bound and gagged in 1969.

All he needs is one brain dead Cook County voter out of 12 in the room.

I recall them tying up and muzzling some of the defendants in the Chicago 7 trials.

Perhaps it's time to renew that spirit.

Though your brother's bound and gagged

And they've chained him to a chair

Won't you please come to Chicago

Just to sing

Interesting.
But isn’t Blagojevich testifying on his own behalf? Was Seale bound and gagged during his testimony or was it simply because he was disrupting the proceedings?

There is no doubt in my mind. If only he obeyed O and gave Vallery 'his' seat - he'd still be governor.

Considering Obama’s interventions in primary contests, I think it’s almost laughable to NOT believe he discussed some sort of deal with Blago on his replacement. Of course, Blago is a cartoon, which allows the media to ignore him to an extent, but it is shameful how they are averting their eyes to the obvious.

Speaking of gestures...

My father was a defense attorney defending a brick layer against the prime. After his rather rough questioning of the plaintiff that same plaintiff shot my father's client the bird in full view of the jury. Jury came back in minimum time for my father's client.

Judges govern this country, not our legislative branch. You’ll think, talk and breathe the way THEY want you to. Period.

“Judge James Zagel told the defendant not to make any facial or other expressions during the trial.”

For crying out loud. NOT making ANY facial expression IS a frigging facial expression.

Next it will be reported that Blago shows no remorse. Blago’s callous and unemotional stone face toward the system, show’s his distain for the rule of law .

Or, it’s apparent that Blago feelings of guilt has quieted him. The jury may read it as a tacit admission.
