My thoughts exactly. What a doofus! Although, here in Texas (Houston specifically) it’s

Coke = Coca Cola
Coke = Dr. Pepper
Coke = Pepsi
Coke = Sprite
Coke = Mountain Dew

The usual is “Wanna coke?” “Sure” “What kind?” “Dr. Pepper” “Sure, here ya go” “thanks!”

I joined a Facebook group for Texans who call all soft drinks “cokes.”. Just to remind me of home!
