Reid supporters go after Sharron Angle over fluoridation; what you can do

One of the "angles" of attack on Sharron Angle is illustrated in the post "FLASHBACK: GOPer Angle Spoke Out Against Fluoride In Water Supply" (link).

Most people have been trained to regard concerns about such issues as crazy talk, when in fact the original program of fluoridation was sold deceptively and using non-rigorous studies and there may be legitimate concerns about its negative health impacts.

If you're an Angle supporter, this is a good chance to help discredit her opponents. If you aren't an Angle supporter, it's still a good chance to discredit some of the bad guys.

What I need you to do is to visit blogs and the like that are discussing this issue and leave comments like the second paragraph above, together with the links below. Encourage people to think for themselves and suggest further research. And, work to discredit those who've discussed this issue without acknowledging that there might be downsides to fluoridation. For an example of that, see my post about Justin Elliott of TPM (the author of the link above).

Important note: simply discussing this here will have little impact. You need to go out into the wider internet and find those who are trying to discredit Angle over this issue. Then, turn it around on them.

Note also that you can do that on Twitter; use search.twitter.com to find those who are discussing this issue.

Years ago when I was pregnant, I bought some baby toothpaste. I also asked my doctor why baby had to have a special toothpaste. She said it is because babies don’t spit it out and swallow the toothpaste and the floride. Go to the store, there is baby toothpaste that has no floride in it. When I drink water, I don’t spit it out. Is floridated water safe for pregnant women?

You are mistaking large exposure (eating toothpaste) with small exposer, what is added to drinking water. Just as oxygen makes you high when you get too much of it, even water can kill you if you drink too much too quickly!

The floridation levels in drinking water are not a health hazard, if you go eat a tube of floridated toothpaste regularly yes you are going to raise your risk of health issues. To equate the two however is silliness.

As I said, floride in drinking water has been studied for nearly a century. Floride is a naturally occurring element, and its found in nearly ALL drinking water, the only difference is the levels. What was found near the begining of last century was that a dentist discovered that people who had higher levels of floride in their water did NOT suffer the tooth decay and issues he witnessed in ares with low levels. This research led to the movement to artificially floridating drinking water in areas where levels were low.

Now since that time, only 1, just 1 study that was peer reviewed found what it believed a statistical link between floridated water and health issue, and when they attempted to repeate that study in another location, the results came back negative. That’s it, that’s the only case where a study showing anything bad with the levels in water, and it was proven false by further study.

Trust me, floridation of drinking water and fear mongering around it is absolutely no different than the global warming hoax junk science. I have lived in areas with and without floridation, when we moved to an area without it, the dentist knew immediately upon looking at our teeth we were not born and raised there because our teeth didn’t show the issues he dealt with daily. It was disgusting seeing children whos baby teeth literally had rotted out of their mouths. Stuff I never ever saw anyplace I had lived before was routine there, because of one simple fact, next to no floride in the water. Toothpase and annual floride treatments do not replace or substitute for low levels in the drinking water. And fools who are anti it, refuse to let water processing plants even put the levels back to what they would be naturally after processing.

Fear of floridated water is flat earth nonsense, and exposes utter ignorance by those who fight against it.

How can there be more floride in toothpaste you use twice a day than water that you drink and cook with all day and bathe in? Have any studies been done on it's safety for pregnant women? They drink a lot of water. Nursing women drink constantly. Is floridated water safe for them? Did anyone test to see before foisting it on everyone? When it is in the city water you don't have a choice.

BTW, my grandmother in her 80's still has her teeth, as does my mother in her 60's, (well water, and pre floridated). In my 40's, I have never had any tooth problems, decay, cavities, nor my children. But then my mother and grandmother were big on brushing and dental care.

I breastfed my children for one year, never bottle fed. Babies with tooth decay usually have been given a propped bottle to go to sleep with. My mother equated that with child abuse. Floridated water is not a replacement for proper dental care.
