LONDON - Some inmates in UK prisons are converting to Islam for the perks. Thats one of the conclusions of a new study of jails here by Britains Chief Inspector of Prisons Dame Anne Owers.
Those perks include food that is viewed as better, as well as more time outside of the cell and exclusion from work and education for Friday prayers.
The Muslim population in British jails has gone from 5% in 1994 to 12% today.
Another appeal of conversion to Islam is seen as the protection of being a member of a Muslim gang.
At the same time, some of those conversions, according to the findings of the study, can be the result of intimidation by those same gangs.
Prison guard official Tom Robson is quoted as saying the trend is worrying, as the growing numbers look for status through the gangs.
The other big finding of the study is while the image of Muslims as militants is widespread, less than 1% of the prison population is there for terrorist-related offenses.
Additionally, Muslims in jails here are not a homogeneous group, including blacks white and Asians.

I wonder if it’s the same here. Lots of prison converts.
yup. thughs find Islam quite comforting.. it is a violent religion after all.
The “perks”, unfortunately, end at death. There are greater “perks” elsewhere.

All it will take is one enormously vacuous figure such as an “Oprah” converting then the mass conversions will begin.
Detroit is constructing the largest mosque in the hemisphere in the holy City of Detroit.
Gang protection, informal authority, contempt for the rule of law (where the law = reason) are all characteristic of Muslims and their appeals.
In India it was the Jizyah.
Pay up or be forced to convert.
Submit or suffer moves forward to submit or die.
The religion of peace strikes again.
Hope they don’t lose their heads over this...
Bloods, Crips, Slams, it is all the same....
