Chuck DeVore concedes US Senate race to Fiorina. His speech is here.....
SFGate: Politics Blog ^ | 6/8/10 | Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Staff Writer

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, the conservative Orange County Republican who began running for US Senate in November 2008, just conceded the race. Here's the prepared text of the concession speech of the man we liked to call Chuck D from the OC:

My friends,

I just completed my telephone call to Carly Fiorina, to congratulate her on her victory this evening. She is our party's nominee. I endorse her. I will support her. I will vote for her. And I call upon all of you to do the same in November.

We traveled a long road to get here. When I started this campaign many months ago, I had the support of my wife, my daughters, and my dog.

And I want to say: Diane, you've put up with me for 22 years -- through moves, deployments, children and campaigns. You are the best wife and companion I can imagine. I love you.

We started this campaign small. Today, I am sincerely humbled to have received the support of hundreds of thousands of Californians from all walks of life.

But let me remind all of you -- this campaign was never about me. It was about conservative principles. It was about our Constitution. I believe we did our honorable part in reminding California why it needs both.

My reply was a fun quip. I did not take offense to any of your comments. This has been a fun and good exchange.

I’m going to have to work on my posting, maybe start using lol or :) to make sure my intent is clear.

Read comment #51. Freedom_is_not_Free has it exactly right. The huge number of immigrants that have poured into the State over the past 40 years has changed the political dynamic. We have many more liberals and they are destroying the state. Conservatives, no matter how enthusiastic cannot overcome the raw numbers. Demographics is Destiny.

In the case of California, a sufficiently large block of voters is on the government teat that the message of cutting government will lose, and the better the Republican candidate's skill at articulating that message, the greater the margin of defeat.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT

You nailed it!

“Ronald Reagan couldn’t win in California today. And that’s a fact!”

A fact?????

Are you always such a naysayer?

No, only when the ocasion calls for it. Ronald Reagan last ran for governor in 1970, that's 40 years ago. The demographics of the state are entirely different today than they were in 1970. We have many more immigrants, both legal and illegal and probably 3/4 of them will vote Democratic. It's in the nature of third world types to vote for more government and that means Democrats. So it's a done deal.

We will never again elect a conservative republican to ANY statewide office particularly if that conservative is a white man. Fiorina might pull off an upset in the Senate but she is what I might call a moderate. She has about one chance in three in my opinion. Demographics is destiny and California's destiny will be to join the third world. Yes, it will take some time but when most of the people are of third world origin, it's inevitable.

Classy.

Now, when is Feinstein due for re-election? A defeat here does not mean he is out of the running. The more conservatives in congress the merrier.

Maybe the GOP should just pull out of CA, because according to you, they have no chance.

I said NOTHING of the sort. He's my exact statement;

We will have to get our hard core conservatives form Alabama and Texas and the like. A moderately conservative like Tom Campbell is the best we can do in California.

I probably should have said; it's the best we can do in a statewide election. We still can have Republicans and Conservatives do well in certain districts. But let's be honest about the demographics of California. We have imported millions and millions of immigrants who are tailor made to vote democratic. It's not the same California as it was when Reagan was governor. So while the Republicans should not abandon California, let's not keep banging our heads against the wall with candidates who cannot win.

It’s not a win if you have a liberal Republican, so I go all out to support prolife, conservative Republicans out of principle, not the Republican who has the best chance of winning.

And sometimes there are political upsets.

Keep fighting the GOOD fight.
