Reuters Admits Cropping Photos of Ship Clash, Denies Political Motive
Fox News ^ | June 8 2010 | By Ed Barnes

The British-based Reuters news agency has been stung for the second time by charges that it edited politically sensitive photos in a way that casts Israel in a bad light. But this time Reuters claims it wasn’t at fault.

The news agency reacted to questions raised by an American blogger who showed that Reuters' photo service edited out knives and blood traces from pictures taken aboard the activist ship Mavi Marmara during a clash with Israeli commandos last week. Nine people were killed and scores were injured in the clash.

The pictures of the fight were released by IHH, the Turkish-based group that sponsored the six-ship fleet that tried to break Israel's blockade of Gaza.

In one photo, an Israeli commando is shown lying on the deck of the ship, surrounded by activists. The uncut photo released by IHH shows the hand of an unidentified activist holding a knife. But in the Reuters photo, the hand is visible but the knife has been edited out.

Obviously done to change the context of the situation (attacker vs attacked).

One cannot logically deny a political motive.

Goebbel’s would love these propaganda ministers. In fact, they would have been valuable during the Nazi reign supporting Hitler.

You’d think Reuters et. al. would have learned by now how little time it takes blogger truth squads to expose their Fauxtography and to publicize it for the crap that it is.

You assume they care.

The fauxtograph went out and was run already.

The photograph will be seen by far fewer, and the correction only carried in media that is already ill inclined towards al-Reuters.

the hand is visible but the knife has been edited out.

That is not a true statement, sorry Fox.

The following would be true: the hand is barely visible but the photo has been cropped making it impossible to discern that he is holding a knife.

Not making an excuse or defending Reuter's just trying be clear as to what was done.

This sounds like just one more in a long, long line of photographic manipulations and outright forgeries intended to propagandize against Israel.

Well, JFK was assassinated on the anniversary of The Petersberg Agreement. So many other things happen in this country on dates that were important to Nazis - it sometimes makes me wonder who is really in charge.

They don’t care. The picture served its purpose and the correction will never be seen.

The Zionists edited the knife into the second picture, there was no knife. It's sad, but that's what will be believed by millions.

More hundreds of millions will never see the second picture.

There was no knife.

Am not surprised...Reuters is known for deceptive ways and reporting....more than a few occasions they have been in trouble for reporting as they do...they even set up staged news. Bad source for news as far as I'm concerned.
