Following is a rundown of activities that occurred over the weekend in the Tucson Sector. This is only a thumbnail of each incident and an invitation to contact the Tucson Sector Communications Division for more information.
Significant Arrests
Border Patrol agents from the Casa Grande station arrested an illegal alien Friday who admitted to being a member of the Sureno 13 gang. When his fingerprints were entered into a database, agents discovered he had arrests alleging aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm, and harassment. The man was held for further processing.
Casa Grande station agents arrested an illegal alien Saturday who admitted that he was a member of the Latin Kings gang. The man was held for further processing.
Agents assigned to the Casa Grande station arrested an illegal alien Saturday who claimed he was a member of the Sureno 13 gang. Records generated through fingerprint testing showed that the man had prior arrests alleging theft, burglary, and narcotics violations. The man was held for prosecution.
Agents assigned to the Nogales station arrested an illegal immigrant Sunday who admitted to being an active member in the Sureno gang. Fingerprint testing revealed that the man had several charges for narcotics violations and for carrying a concealed gun. The man was held for prosecution.
Technology, such as fingerprint testing, assists the Border Patrol by rapidly identifying criminal aliens so they can be brought to an appropriate law enforcement resolution. The Border Patrol is committed to securing our nations borders and preventing criminal aliens from entering our communities.
Rescues and Recoveries
Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson Station rescued an illegal immigrant Sunday who had consumed contaminated water. After being evaluated by a Border Patrol agent trained as an Emergency Medical Technician, the man was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Agents assigned to the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit (BORSTAR) rescued two illegal aliens Sunday who were suffering from dehydration. The subjects were treated and transported for processing.
Agents assigned to BORSTAR rescued an illegal immigrant Sunday who could no longer walk and was experiencing dehydration. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Agents assigned to the Casa Grande station discovered bone fragments and what appeared to be a human skull Saturday. The scene was turned over to the Tohono Oodham Police Department.
Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson station apprehended two illegal immigrants Sunday claiming they left behind a man that had collapsed and possibly died. Agents located the man, already deceased, and turned over the scene to the Pima County Sheriffs Department.
Agents assigned to BORSTAR located an illegal immigrant requesting assistance to help recover his deceased travel companion. The illegal immigrant identified the deceased as his brother-in-law. The scene was turned over to TOPD.
Smugglers continue to put peoples lives at risk in their attempts to profit from illegal activity. As temperatures continue to climb, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol will continue to work with local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement partners to render humanitarian aid to anyone found in distress. The Tucson Sector has more than 200 agents certified as EMTs and last year rescued 586 people.
