Plus, we don’t know where Petraeus even stands on policy. I’d rather see him run for a Gubernatorial office first and see how he does. I remember the big rush in ‘95 to draft Colin Powell (and even I was willing to consider him at the time just to get rid of Bubba). Thank heavens we dodged that bullet. Even Ike proved a disaster for the GOP, leaving the party in its weakest shape since the Great Depression.

Before getting to that issue, we don't know which party he supports. I don't think it's at all clear he'd be a Republican.
