Considering the (a) all-out media hysteria over Katrina and the blitz of condemnation of President Bush by liberal politicians and members of the mainstream media, and (b) the interference and cover the mainstream media has run for President Obama over the BP oil spill the results of this poll are nothing short of amazing.
Via Newsmax from an ABC News/Washington Post poll:
A month and a half after the spill began, 69 percent in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll rate the federal response negatively. That compares with a 62 negative rating for the response to Katrina two weeks after the August 2005 hurricane.
These surprising numbers may just indicate that record-low numbers of Americans are drinking the Koolaid the mainstream media is desperately selling.
Public confidence in the objectivity, accuracy and reliability of mainstream media information has been dropping for 15 years or more. After the in-the-tank overtly pro-Obama media coverage of 2008, public confidence probably dropped several notches.
How much should the federal government be doing in this situation? A lot less than many want it to, I suspect. To a great extent, state and local governments are still the best level of response to disasters. They are closer to the issue and, when compared to the bloated and inefficient federal government, far more capable of action.
When Hurricane Katrina struck, state and local authorities like that of Louisiana and New Orleans responded slowly and incompetentlythen blamed the federal government (and the convenient Republican administration) for their own ineptitude. Of course, the mainstream media was right there to hype stories of suffering, shed tears and make impassioned pleas for help.
I think there is an argument to be made, however, that the federal government has a greater role for response with the oil spill since it is taking place far off the coast of the country and originates well outside the boundaries of any state or states.
Still, these poll results after the predictable media double-standard are very interesting
and encouraging. If our republic is to survive, the American people must learn to look beyond the propaganda of our mainstream media.
Obama has spent too much time hobnobbing it with with other elites at Parties, Golfing, and had 2 Vacations during one of the biggest if not the biggest environmental disaster ever.
It is time to frame and typecast Obama as Uncaring, Incompetent, Elitist, and Out of Touch.
White man’s overbite?
Good catch! You should post that as a free-standing thread.
You're right, sickoflibs - it's sweet.
Don't forget his first responders were...lawyers!
