Now if they get a conviction it's probably gonna be 20 years

While that might be more satisfying in the long run, don't they have the death penalty? Why should the Peruvian taxpayers pay to support his sorry ash, no matter how badly, for 20 years or more?

No, they don’t have the death penalty for murder, only treason.

Now, in this case , even if he got 5 years, I would say it is a death penalty.

They aren’t going to be supporting him.

From what I saw on Nat Geo, you get provided one bowl of dirty rice per day prepared in an unsanitary kitchen. Anything else you need must be bought with money obtained from outside the prison, you must also pay rent to the gang that runs your cell block, and all sorts of other fun things like that.

Beyond that, he’s twenty two, he’s a gringo, his family cut him off, his dad is dead, and he is low on money and needs good lawyer very badly.

In other words, I think he’s done for.
