Official: Elite Revolutionary Guards are prepared to intervene

TEHRAN - Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guards naval forces are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Any intervention by the Iranian military would be considered highly provocative by Israel which accuses Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, the Islamist movement which rules Gaza.

Elite? WTH does that mean? What have they ever done except get their butts kicked?

I remember how just "elite" Iraq's Republican Guard was.

Rarely does anything ever enter into the press by mistake. This is just another attempt to make our potential enemies more fearsome than they actually are.

Very exotic remotely controlled mines out there in the water, some can be acoustically tuned to go after only ONE vessel if given a recording, they cut themselves loose and can even launch a lightweight torpedo such as dropped from helos.

Here is hoping someone has the assets to just stop the Gaza ships from leaving port in the first place.

Israel may be the only country on earth strong enough to challenge Obama, an enemy of my enemy is my friend, Go Israel!

Typical Iran crap that is not to be taken seriously. They don’t have the ability. However by proxy, if Hezbollah has now sufficiently rearmed and is itching for war [thank you Condi Rice] then a Hezbollah ship may attempt to break the blockade and Hezbollah will use any Israel response as a Casus Belli to attack Israel.

Also, unless the US [and hope of that is minimal with Obama and Clinton at the helm] restrain Turkey, the Islamic Government there is liable to miscalculate and I would not be in the least surprised if war - or minimally a serious shooting incident- breaks out between Israel and Turkey.

Include me in that statement as well.

As for the IRGC escorting those ships...well, Iran didn’t need that navy anyway.

Can you recall Saddam’s Husseins’ last days, when he commented that the West would soon come to rue the day that it relieved him from power in the region? He was right. Don’t you long for the “good old days” when Iraq and Iran were giving each other’s jihaadis the quick trip to the 72 virgins? Get away from the MidEast area, and let the different sect of Muslims kill one -another off. A Muslim hates another Muslim of a different sect more than he hates a Christian or Jew, who at least are to be offered conversion or subjugation before they are be killed.

Just another after-effect of obama's dereliction in foreign policy.

Exactly!!! We forced South Korea to back down along with our retreat and now the Islamists, emboldened by our backing down on our defense of Israel (actually -- Outright hostility to the Jews) get this response for Turkey and Iran. Any doubt that Egypt will allow Iran's tiny navy through the Suez??

You were saying ...

... cue Dragnet theme...

You may be talking to a significant number here who don't even know what Dragnet is, much less having ever watched it ... LOL ...

Dragnet series

Dragnet was perhaps the most famous and influential police procedural drama in media history. The series gave millions of audience members a feel for the boredom and drudgery, as well as the danger and heroism, of real-life police work. Dragnet earned praise for improving the public opinion of police officers.

[ ... ]

The original Dragnet starring Jack Webb as Sgt. Friday ran on radio from June 3, 1949 to February 26, 1957 and on television from December 16, 1951 to August 23, 1959, and from January 12, 1967 to April 16, 1970. All of these versions ran on NBC. There were three Dragnet feature films, a straight adaptation starring Webb in 1954; a TV-movie produced in 1966; and a comedy spoof in 1987. There were also television revivals, without Webb, in 1989 and 2003. A newspaper comic strip version of Dragnet, written by Jack Webb and Joe Scheiber, ran in newspapers from about 1952 to 1955.

Ummmm.... yeah! Any country which acts in any way to actively break through a country's defenses, to allow penetration of the control of the borders that they have -- is asking for a war. That's what it amounts to.

If you were to have any country act in such a way as to give military support to forcefully break through a country's defenses of their borders -- that's something that no country would tolerate without a vigirous and strong military response.
