It's an odd pairing
Rush has raised a ton of money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Hiv+ patients are at high risk for developing lymphoma. Elton John probably appreciates the effort that Rush has made to try to help those people.

I believe Rush is also active in the Pediatric AIDS foundation (Elizabeth Glaser’s group).
