Sarah Palin’s Way of Thinking
The NY SUN ^ | 06/05/2010 | Ny Sun editiors

Posted on 06/05/2010 10:23:38 AM PDT by unseen1

If a policy reform is going to come out of British Petroleum’s catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, we predict it will emerge in the outlines of Sarah Palin’s post Wednesday on her Facebook page. That is where she sends what she calls a “message to exreme ‘environmentalists’ who hypocritically protest domestic energy production offshore and onshore.” Writes she: “Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice to meet our country’s energy needs, but your protests and lawsuits and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas. It’s catching up with you. The tragic, unprecedented deep water Gulf oil spill proves it.”

The former governor’s statement is being met with much ridicule among those who are agitating for, say, President Obama to show more emotion. The line against her is that her mantra of “Drill, Baby, Drill” was meant to refer to just such deep water drilling as British Petroleum was doing at a depth of a mile in the Gulf of Mexico. But her famous chant was in fact a call for tapping our own oil petroleum reserves, particularly in Alaska, though not only there. She favors drilling both offshore and on-. Her policy is centered in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the her state’s other great oil and gas fields, such as the National Petroleum Reserve on the North Slope of Alaska.

Governor Palin’s point will, we predict, become only more logical in the face of the disaster of the Deepwater Horizon.

It is becoming clear to all that Gov Palin "gets it"

“It is becoming clear to all that Gov Palin “gets it” “

The reality is that she is brighter than Obama and many of the pundits who have done their best to describe her as an idiot. I have friends who buy lock stock and barrel into the crap the media has sold about Bush being stupid, but Gore and Kerry being geniuses. They also think Obama is really, really bright, but Palin is stupid.

Being bright is not defined by where you went to school, and definitely not by how smoothly you speak. It is evident in the way you are able to look at facts and make sense of them. Using that measure Palin has shown quite well that she has substantial intellect. A lot of Ivy graduates in this administration haven't.

As Thomas Sowell succinctly puts it in his excellent book “Intellectuals and Society”, intellect does not equal wisdom.

We all know that there are many people who are “smart” but don’t have a lick of common sense.

Here again is one of those key differences between liberals and conservatives: Liberals will take the “smart” or “wonkish” person 100% of the time, whereas conservatives will always take the person with common sense.

Intellectual does not equal intellect. That's a big dichotomy the left continuously misses.

That's a big dichotomy the left continuously misses. they don's miss it so much as use it. Lenin's "useful idiots" come to mind. Most marxists have very low self esteem. therefore to build themselves up they must tear down those that disagree with them. To do anything else would destroy their own self-esteem.

the environmentalists also were to blame of the Valdez spill due to them forcing the transport into ships instead of a pipeline.

As Thomas Sowell succinctly puts it in his excellent book “Intellectuals and Society”, intellect does not equal wisdom.

Victor Davis Hanson said virtually the same thing at the Hoover Institute in a speech just before the '08 election. His words were "I've found more wisdom on 100 acres south of Fresno than on the quad over there at Stanford."

That's a lot of brainpower agreeing on the value of common sense.

It is not "catching up" with them because the goal of the environmentalists is not ultimately the environment as we think of it. It is the shutting down of the modern economy in order to get back to a nicer more comfortable world where they are the ones who rule in necessary luxury over a much reduced world population of bare subsistence serfs. They don't understand that such a scenario will ultimately leave them dead or among the serfs because it will be ruled by the strongest most ruthless individuals.

The technology they cannot imagine doing without will no longer be there and there will be a continually declining source of energy for their own "needs." They are the product of a historically Croessanly wealthy society that can support increasing numbers of high IQ members who don't work but use their brainpower and their inherited or Granted wealth to dream up and attempt to implement utopias for themselves that can exist only in their brilliant imaginations and that require the starvation and murder of most of the rest of the population.

It is clear that the left never studied hitler, Pol Pot, stalin, Lenin, or Mao.

If they did they would know that the intellectual are the first to face the ovens, the gallows, the killing fields. the Marxists do not want smart people as their serfs.

They didn't have to. They were Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Lenin and Mao.

yeah but they don't think that they are. that is the problem. they look at Hitler and Stalin and think Reagan and bush.

and/or they think it was the men not their ideas that were wrong.

The great Wisdom Book, in Proverbs 4:7 says it best:

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding."

"Book learning," such as that of the pseudointellectuals in the White House, along with their hangers-on, provides a limited degree of "knowledge," which they often mistake for wisdom. Their circular judgments about each other agree, because they are trapped in a provinciality of time and place, limited by the writers and philosophers they chose to study--people like Mao and Marx and other such folks--and the professors who have propagandized them.

agreed. “Book learning” is fine as long as those that do it stay within society as a whole. the problem arises because the more highly intellectuals are by definition excluded for general society. therefore their knowledge of human nature is limited and therefore their policies always fails to take into account that human nature. Thus their policies are doomed to failure.

Interestingly, Thomas Sowell has an interesting take on intellectuals in his book. In his view, “intellectual” is an occupation, the same as. Policeman,
Fireman or doctor. And just as there are good policemen, firefighters, doctors and intellectuals, there are bad policemen, firefighters, doctors and intellectuals. An Example of a good intellectual would be William F. Buckley or Dr. Sowell himself, and an example of a bad one would be James Hansen.

To 2 - Right on the fecking mark!
I would only add:

The reality is that she is brighter than Obama and many of the pundits who have done their best to describe her as an idiot, as well as those on the Right who dismiss her as intellectually inferior.

It’s a huge misstake to compare Palin with BO.....this plays into the idea that personality trumps experience etc. We can’t put her in that mold....people don’t want another “personality”..............if comparing then compare her with others than Bo...favorable ones.

Sarah likes to slash through the Gordian knot with one swipe; Zero likes to surround himself with ‘intellects’ to weave fairy tales about the knot.
