The Israel Air Force has installed a command and control system to help respond to an enemy missile strike. Officials said the Air Force has installed the Magnet system in all bases. They said Magnet, which links to radar and sensors, facilitates the rapid transfer of data to military headquarters.
"The new system can send a warning regarding missiles hitting any base through a message on the screen," Maj. Itzik Ben-Simon, an Air Force operations chief, said. "Until now, the alerts were relayed by phone from the control cell in Tel Aviv."
Officials said Magnet has included a computerized operations log, replacing the heritage manual system. They said the new system was designed to provide updates on the battlefield as well as in Air Force bases and distribute the data throughout the military.
"The guidelines for any given emergency situation are already saved in the system, so that if there is an incident, whoever directs the operation can log into Magnet and receive instructions, Ben-Simon said.
Magnet has been used in the military's Turning Point-4 exercise, meant to test Israel's response to missile and rocket salvos from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. The exercise, conducted in late May, tested military and civilian communications in simulated conventional and weapons of mass destruction attacks.
Another use of Magnet, a project which began development in 2002, was to alert bases of incoming artillery, missile and rocket fire. Officials said the air force concluded a review of Magnet's operational capabilities in 2010 and examined the feasibility of deploying the system in the Army.
"The system has already been presented to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] Army Headquarters as well, and the IDF is examining its possible integration in the ground forces," Ben-Simon said.

I believe the IDF should radically ramp up its short range and medium range ground-to-ground rocket inventories , to match Hezbollah and Hamas and engage them in like vollies
of counter battery fire , if attacked .
The IAF is great , but they can only put up so many aircraft at a time . Mass volumes ( ala Katushya/Stalins Organs) counter battery fire could be an awesome deterrent. The Arabs don’t care who they hit as collateral casualties , so why should Israel worry about it? Fight fire with greater fire .
