Pemex spent $100 million to clean up the spill and avoided paying compensation by asserting sovereign immunity.

Sounds like the template Fidel and Raul would use if their Chinese guests blow a gasket off of their shores. A blowout near Cuba would be much more likely to foul shores along our eastern seaboard. What would 0boyIWon do about that?

This moratorium will be a nail in our coffin. This will give you an idea:

Thanks for that link.

"This moratorium suspends operations for 33 rigs at a cost up to $500,000 per day, per rig – resulting in roughly $16,500,000 per day in costs for idle rigs, not to mention almost $1 million dollars a day for supply ships and other supply industries."

Yikes! The ripple effect from that on the local economy and government revenues will be staggering.

Why don’t BP and Obama just decide to stop this leak so we can all have a nice weekend?

This is unbelievably sad and disgusting. Our country will be dealing with the horrible repercussions from this oil disaster for decades.

Obama is done - put a fork in him.

They're swimming now because the tar balls are few and far between. Just wait till the nasty stuff gets there.

It's akin to swimming in the ocean when the seaweed is coming ashore. It stinks like hell and gets into the bathing suit areas. Not good.

This has the potential for being much worse on the liberal messiah than Katrina was on GWB, even taking into account the media love affair with the won.

That's my point. The print media is reporting this as if the beaches are already like that.

Ugh..it’s a moratorium on NEW drilling ventures only. The rigs that already exist are not affected.

Now if the Gubmint mandated safety inspections of the EXISTING rigs, that would actually accomplish something.

That’s a GREAT idea.

So, anger is JUST starting now?

All the foot dragging by everyone doing the finger pointing has just ensured that this has become an unparalleled disaster.

They could have started burning it off at the beginning. They could have done what the Saudis did and collect it and separate it out.

The feds have not given the states permission to do oil containment.

IGNORE THE FEDS. Do what you have to and deal with the government later.

And if Crap & Tax passes, the prices for all petroleum products will necessarily skyrocket. Here’s a partial list:

Well, all of those evil, nasty white people in three out of four states owned slaves, so this is just the North’s revenge... love, Hussein Soetero

Seriously, the entire border from San Diego to Florida is now a contaminated wasteland (between the cartels and the oil). But BO just wants to golf and go to rock concerts.

The environmental damages are unlikely to be a problem for more than a couple of years.

Gulf Oil Spill a "Dead Zone in the Making"?

Infauna, or small organisms such as clams and tubeworms that live in ocean sediments, are vital food sources for shorebirds and other coastal animals.

After the 1979 Ixtoc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the area's infauna were reduced by up to 90 percent, Tunnell said—a potential reason many bird species left the area in the wake of the nine-month-long spill.

However, there may be a bright side: Organisms at the bottom of the food chain reproduce more rapidly than bigger animals, Tunnell pointed out by email. After the Ixtoc spill, infauna returned to pre-spill levels within about a year.
