Disasters and Double Standards

Remember the big stories in the national media when George W. Bush waited four days to tour New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit? Here’s a pop quiz: How long did it take President Obama to visit the Gulf coast after the Deepwater Horizon oil leak began?

The answer is 13 days. Here is how The Washington Post described that visit:

“He flew in and out of New Orleans on May 2, drove two hours to a Coast Guard station and got a briefing before taking a quick helicopter tour. He did not even see the oil slick.”

Mark Knoller of CBS News reported last week that in the first 39 days after each respective catastrophe, Obama visited the Gulf coast twice; Bush visited New Orleans seven times. But remember, this is not Obama’s Katrina!

Now imagine if President Bush, five weeks into one of the largest oil leaks in U.S. history, and without ever having seen the slick, jetted across the country to headline a $17,600 per-person fund-raiser at the home of an oil-fortune heir. How do you think the national press would have treated that? Bush didn’t do that, which is why you didn’t hear about it. President Obama did — which is why you didn’t hear about it.

The double standard will always be with us, so don't get worked up about it. It is bad for your health.

The good news is the MSM is dying - or is time for a bailout? It is hard to keep track.

PRESIDENT Bush did not go to NO for four days because he knew a presidential visit would tie up the aiport, logistics and services of people desperately needed to move people and supplies ...also the reason he flew over to survey the damage and did not land

also, check out how long it took Bill Clinton to visit the WTC after the 1993 first foreign terrorist attack on US soil

Great point. Plus Katrina was a local government issue, state and city. Nagin and Blanco did nothing but expect the feds to come in and save the day. IMO it was a setup to destroy bush just like what Lawton Chiles did after Hurricane Andrew. The first president Bush, by law, was not allowed to send in feds until he got permission from the state governer. Chiles held off for nearly a week until he gave the permission to Bush. Meanwhile, the dim media showed images of people in Homestead FLA suffering in the heat and images of GHWBush riding around on his boat off of Kennebunkport.
This go round, there was a rig in Federal waters operating under permits issued by the feds. Over the last couple of years, the feds have become very aggressive on their claim to federal waters. Try going snapper fishing. Rots of ruck. This spill happened in federal territory and this admin did nothing but conduct meetings. IMO again, I think they dithered on purpose in order to let the oil reach the states shore in order to bash the oil companies. “The problem was just too big to handle”. Then this morning in the Houston barnicle they reported that permits that were issued earlier are going to be suspended.
They are really out to kill off this country. Can’t be any other explanation.

“The good news is the MSM is dying...” Yes, but the FCC says that newspapers’ “experiment” with the new-fangled thing called the “Internet” isn’t working and they need a new business model — fashioned by the government!

re Katrina:

Don’t you just miss Blanco and Landrieu sobbing on each other’s shoulders on all the news and talk shows about how the incompetent feds hate their state and the big bad president just doesn’t care, and won’t give them any help?

Saaaay, where is Landrieu anyway? Saw her once this week, standing silently behind obama, with a face like a basset hound
