You are making assumptions about people you do not know, and about a situation that you may not have considered very well. The people who are open carrying are not doing so to “look cool”. They are doing so at risk to finances and health because they are willing to risk a bit to gain back a little of the freedom that we have lost. In California, this is mostly about political exercising of rights, not about self defense.

The California legislature may pass this, and Arnold may sign it, but I do not expect that it will stand for very long. I expect that the Supreme Court will incorporate the 2nd Amendment to the States via the Chicago vs McDonald case, and then the California open carry ban and “may issue” ccw law will both be challenged. Likely both will lose. It is also likely that the insane liberal regime in California will go down in flames and a sane regime will reverse this law (hey, it is possible).

I'm not intimidated, I carry every day almost everywhere I go. I just don't "flaunt it" like some gangbanger with a new silver keychain. Its not necessary. I have the gun, I have the right, I have the permit.

See, there's the trouble. You have the permit, but many Californians - perhaps MOST - simply CAN NOT GET a permit, because their "good cause" is not good enough to satisfy the racist/elitist/whatever Sheriff or Police Chief.

Have you read the Colafrancesco papers? If not, you should do so, so you can see just what most people who apply for a concealed-carry license are up against. A corrupt, money-grubbing racket.

Jim March also gathered evidence of racial redlining in Oakland County, where predominantly black cities had concealed-carry issuance rates of 0.0001%, and that percentage usually constituted campaign contributors.

The ONLY way to carry legally for someone whose chief or sheriff WILL NOT issue concealed carry licenses is open and unloaded.

So it is, simply put, the abuse of the licensing system by corrupt chiefs and sheriffs which brought California to this point, not people carrying openly in full compliance with the letter of the law.

And that statement itself reveals how little the author knows about the corruption-riddled discretionary-issue concealed carry licensing system in so much of California.
