I have several times not received a tax bill. Know what I did? That’s right, called them and made sure they mailed it again.

But, I’m not a Democrat so not paying taxes has consequences.

Exactly!

I have nothing but the deepest contempt and antipathy for Rahm "Keitel" Emanuel, but even so, it is a gratuitous waste of our precious political capital to try and make hay out of a missed tax payment that doesn't go beyond simple, garden-variety negligence and that gets promptly paid once it's brought to the taxpayer's attention.

Trying to make too much out of this is essentially an act of stone-throwing by those who may very well live in glass houses - there are certainly more than a handful of otherwise honorable republicans/conservatives who have, at least once or twice, been late on a tax payment. Do we really want to establish the precedent of making such penny-ante delinquencies grounds for a concerted political attack?

Besides, there are so many other things for which this fascist liberal so richly deserves to be attacked.

USA Today reported on Emanuel and his wife’s tax-exempt “foundation” (operated out of their Chicago residence). The tax-exempt “Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Trust” was formed in 2002, when the 4-term Chicagoan was first elected to Congress. Rahm and his wife, Amy Rule (a convert to Judaism), are its only donors. At one point the Emanuels did not pay real estate taxes b/c their residence is the tax-exempt foundation’s office. According to the Cook County Assessor’s website multi-millionaire Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago home doesn’t exist. There seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home.

Yeah, I, the guy who never maintains a credit card balance and never forgets to get the full payment in on time, totally forgot to pay my April property tax bill. Not because I did not get a bill, but because there was a lot of other stuff going on. I was renovating my house and my bookkeeping sort of went on hiatus. When I got the “late notice” I couldn’t remember if I had paid or not. I hadn’t. I paid it the next business day — with a 10% fine.
