N. Korea: Ri Je-gang, Key Backer of Kim Jong-un, Killed in a Traffic Accident
06/03/10
Drunk driving suspected after the gathering with Kim jong-il
N. Korea's KCNA reported on June 2, "Ri Je-gang, First Vice Director of Central Committee at Korean Worker's Party and a member of Supreme People's Assembly, died of an auto accident at the age of 80, at 00:45 am, June 2." Ri accompanied Kim Jong-il to watch the performance of propaganda art unit from (military) Unit No. 963. Experts suspect that he was killed in a drunk driving accident after attending the secret party by Kim Jong-il, considering that the accident occurred at late night. Kim Jong-il is known to frequently throw a party late night at a clandestine location, asking his close associates not to use their chauffeur, and to drive there in person.
He is one of the closest figures to Kim Jong-il and the key backer of Kim Jong-un(the designated successor) born from his third consort(wife) Ko Yong-hee.

FYI, experts find it likely that there would be the overhaul of Organization Guidance Department Ri was heading, in which younger generation takes over and Kim Jong-un himself could take over Ri’s job.

Or he could have veered off the road and hit a tree or wall. As with the many cases of high official’s death, there are wide-open possibilities, and distinct lack of detailed information.
