"And I also got a family name plaque with two name boards attached via chains."
I have a good story about that. I got one of those when I was in the Phillipines after my oldest was born. The next time I went on float, my wife was pregnant with our second. This is back when people didn't get utlrasounds left and right so we didn't know what the sex of the child was going to be. We decided on names for either a boy or a girl and when I got to the Phillipines, I had one made for each name.

Well I never made it back to Subic Bay, I made it as close as Okinawa (with family in tow), but never got back to the Philippines. Besides, they had shuttered Subic Bay as a US base by then; heck, our ships only stopped for fuel and R&R.
And I didn’t know that many sailors, except the docs and corpsmen! LOL!
