With the government involoved NOTHING innovative is possible. They have passed on the sea-vacuum that the Saudi’s successfully used. Also, I read a posting recently about how much the Obama cronies will make in oil-dispersants supplied by a Chicago comapny. If this keeps up they’ll all be very, very rich. Don’t expect a solution soon as rich cronies supply the money for campaigns.
Really - if the first cap failed because frozen gas sealed it, why not use the same freezing mechanism to freeze the pipe?
You’d need a bunch. I’m not sure what the logistical aspects of uning cryogens under those conditions are.
I suggested freezing it a few days ago. But there’s the risk of ice further fracturing the pipe.
